Lilla Kulka
Lilla Kulka is often occupied with simple
silhouettes of the human body. Through
these forms, she poses questions of identity
and the human condition. In her painterly
work Odchodzacy (Departure III) (Read-
ing Between the Lines) half the human
silhouette is clearly outlined, yet appears
incomplete, a portion to be imagined. Re-
curring across Kulka’s practice, such fig-
ures evoke the emotions and contradictions
that define human existence: its strength
and fragility, presence and absence. Her
work reflects on what it means to be human
today—experiencing fear, pain, happiness,
and enchantment –- always becoming.
