Mill Creek Advanced Placement (AP) Program

The AP Program affords students a college experience at the high school level. The academic rigor, combined
with the knowledge and expertise of the high school teacher gives the student a good preview of the college
learning environment in a supportive classroom.

    Points to Ponder:

It is advisable to sit down with your student and discuss both short and long-term goals before registering
for an AP course. Make a four-year plan. Of course, it is always a work in progress, but it is something to
        build upon.
While “A’s” in AP courses are weighted on the GCPS transcript, they are not weighted when calculating
eligibility for the HOPE Scholarship. Know how these numbers are determined.
Some of the courses require applications. For example, AP Seminar requires an application, and students
must complete at least one AP course during their freshman year and earn a 4.0 G.P.A. in order to be

        eligible.
The workload and demands in these courses can be stressful for some students. Students should weigh
their current time commitments (work, athletics, service) along with their academic readiness before
choosing to pursue any AP course.
Check Mill Creek’s website in May for summer AP course work.
