SCIENCE AP COURSE OFFERINGS
AP PHYSICS II
Description : This course is equivalent to a second semester college introductory physics course.
Topics include fluids, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, optics, and modern physics. This
course is taught with a balance of lecture, guided discussion, problem solving, and hands-on lab
activities.
Skills for Success : Students should have strong algebra skills, strong reading skills, and the
ability to adapt and learn in different ways.Academic Suitability : Successful completion of AP
Physics I is required.
Out of Class Commitments : Homework is assigned nightly (30-60 min). Homework includes
textbook problems, open-ended lab responses, as well as quiz/test preparation. A design-build
project will be assigned each semester (5-20 hours)

AP PHYSICS C: MECHANICS
Description : This course is a second year physics course teaching laws of motion through a
balance of lecture with guided discussion and hands-on lab activities. The course incorporates
1st year concepts with calculus-based problem solving skills.
Skills for Success : Students should have a good understanding of kinematics and dynamics, as
well as algebra skills, strong reading skills, and the ability to adapt and learn in different ways.
Academic Suitability : At the time of enrollment, students need to have already completed
Honors Physics OR AP Physics 1 and to be sitting in OR have already completed an AP Calculus
course (AB or BC).
Out of Class Commitments : Homework is assigned nightly (30 min). Homework includes
textbook problems, open-ended lab responses (12/yr), as well as announced quiz (20/yr)
preparation. A project will be assigned each semester and may require work outside of class (10-
20 hours). In addition, students may routinely require extra help from before and after school
sessions.
