Work Smarter and Fulfill Your Commitments...
As we enter into our summer months, first and foremost, take
time for yourself to rest, relax and reset. It is so very
important to allow down time and to give your brain a break.
I've never really cared for the saying "Work Smarter not Harder", in a way it
downplays hard work and working hard is an important character trait. Now, being
efficient with your time...there's nothing wrong with that. If you can do things during
your down time that make life easier when your schedule gets hectic, do it!
My advise for the summer; use this time to plan out your year, and I'm not just
talking your 4-H year. Young people are busy these days, but that is not an excuse
to slack on the commitments you made to your school, your team, your club or your
job. Take time this summer to sit down with your parents and create a calendar and
be proactive in helping yourself keep up with your responsibilities.
If you ran for a club officer position, use these summer months to get a head start on
your officer responsibilities. For instance, if you're in charge of submitting "Club
News" to me for the monthly 4-H magazine, make your templates now. It's one less
thing you have to do once school rolls back around and the schedule gets busy.
Maybe you're interested in being a teen project leader and would like to write up
educational articles, or maybe even shoot short videos (I love me some TikTok). You
could shoot them all during the summer time and schedule them to post throughout
the year.
Club officers listen up!! The most important thing...you make sure you are fulfilling
your obligations and if you're not able to, you do the responsible thing and step
down. You chose to run for that office and there are roles and responsibilities that
come along with that office. Reach out to your club managers this summer and do
what you can now to help your year run as efficient and as smooth as possible.
