Pianist Grace Chen is 11 years old and currently in sixth grade at Derby Academy in Hingham.
She has been studying piano at SSC for four years with HuiMin Wang, while also studying cello for two
years with SSC’s Kyung-Nam Oh. She is also part of the SSC Youth Orchestra. At Derby Academy, Grace
participates in string orchestra and music theory class. Her favorite types of music are classical and
jazz. Grace has won multiple local and regional competitions in piano, including the Russian Music
Competition, the Bay State Piano Competition, and the Steinway Piano Competition. A Hingham
resident, Grace enjoys playing ice hockey, ping-pong, and building snowmen.
Bassoonist Rahul Prasad is 15 years old and a junior at Braintree High School. He
has been taking lessons at South Shore Conservatory with Janet Underhill for nearly four
years. He has been very active at SSC’s, including participating in the annual Woodwind
and Brass Competition and HuiMin Wang Youth Concerto Competition, as well as in Summer
Music Festival. Outside of SSC, Rahul is part of the Boston Youth Symphony, Massachusetts
Youth Wind Ensemble, and was chosen to participate in the Massachusetts All-State Music
Festival last year. While generally, his favorite experience playing the bassoon is when he is
surrounded by other musicians in an orchestra or wind ensemble, he’s happy as long as he’s
                                    making music!
