Cobh Tidy Towns 2019 update
It’s been a busy few months in 2019 for us in Cobh Tidy Towns. We have been litter
picking each week. In 2018 our volunteers gathered 752 bags of dropped litter. To
date (end February) we have picked 111 bags. Please do not throw rubbish from
your car and help us by picking up and binning one piece when you are out walk-
ing. The new litter warden has successfully issued fines relating to illegal dumping of
bags and we welcome this.
Your community group or residents association can register for the 2019 National
Spring Clean in April at www.nationalspringclean.org for a free clean up kit.
Amongst our other projects Hydrangeas on the WatersEdge have been pruned;
street signs have been washed; Titanic Memorial Garden Railings have been painted
and area tidied; pollinator friendly plants put in at the IFI bank; Promenade tiled
steps polished up and pole/bollard painting has begun. All the bulbs we planted in
Autumn are bringing beautiful spring colour to barrels and boats all around town.
With the upcoming local and european elections we again request a poster free zone
from the boundary of the Tay Road in to Cobh as has been acknowledged in the last
Presidential and National election as well as Referenda over the last few years. Help
us keep Cobh clean and reduce single use plastic corriboard, cable ties and visual
clutter. Join us Saturdays at 10am Whitepoint Playground.
