TWENTY FOOT CONTAINER IS FILLED WITH THOUSANDS OF FOOD
ITEMS FOR CHARITY
A massive 20 foot container has been filled with food contained in 160 boxes for three
Cork charities, following an appeal earlier this month. It has been announced today that
this will be be an annual event.
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Mick Finn launched the first ever NRG Food Energy Appeal
earlier in December. The appeal asked the people of Cork to make donations to fill a
container full of food for Penny Dinners, Feed Cork and the Chocolate Box Appeal. They
asked people to bring non perishable goods and chocolates to various drop-off points
around Cork.
Managing Director of Sea Box Energy, Patrick Hogan said: “We asked people to bring
anything from one food item to a box of food to various locations around Cork. We
wanted to fill one of our containers full of food for various charities this Christmas. Cork
people answered the call and we are now able to pass on the food items to Penny Din-
ners. Feed Cork and the Chocolate Box Appeal. This little bit of help will go a long way
this Christmas.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all of the businesses that helped out so that we
could use them as collection points and also to Smurfit Kappa who gave us boxes for
people to fill.”
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Mick Finn said: “Cork people are known for their generosity and
for looking after their own. Three great Cork charities – Penny Dinners, Feed Cork and
the Chocolate Box Appeal – will benefit from this initiative.”
