Cover Story
CN Tower, Toronto
Tim Macauley
This year’s front cover is from
alumnus and photographer Tim
Macauley’s series of images exploring
the interplay of sunlight and metal
in Frank Gehry’s architecture. ‘Some
buildings come alive at night’ Tim
notes, ‘and others shine during the
day. I like that duality’. As Tim studied
Photography and Engineering both
as an undergraduate and graduate
student at the College, he spent
his summers as a guide at Camp
Merrowvista in the United States –
where a camera given to him by his
dad in 2005 started his photographic
journey. At College, Tim benefited
from conversations with College
Librarian Nicholas Purcell, whose
own photography has received local
and international recognition. Many
alumni will remember the College’s
photography dark room along
the ground floor of Traill. While
digital images have largely replaced
negatives and chemicals, photography
remains a passion for many students
whose work is exhibited in the
College’s annual ‘Wintersong’
exhibition.
You can see more of Tim’s work on his
blog The Biketorialist.
