And the Future

A long time ago, a friend said to me,
“There’s nothing about you that I envy—except the fact that you have a mentor.”
To this day, having the protection and guidance of a mentor has given me a richness of spirit that no
                      material wealth can compare to.

That mentor is none other than the sculptor Kim Yoon-Shin.

For over 40 years, he worked globally with Argentina as his base, and in the spring of 2023—when the
forsythia bloom their yellow eyes open—he returned in honor to his homeland.
In his new studio, his countless sculptures and paintings are stacked high like a mountain. The sheer
volume of his work is astonishing, and his entire being is wrapped in the spirit of art. Once again, I was
struck by the thought: he is a true artist. When he reached his nineties,
he held an exhibition titled Kim Yoon-Shin and His Disciples, surrounded by his students.
A book of writings was also published and dedicated to him—an expression of beauty and righteous-
                      ness.
Every moment of his life’s journey has been filled with tireless artistic activity, touching and influencing
                      many.
The path he has walked—and continues to walk—has become my personal textbook for becoming a
true artist, although I am constantly reminded of my own limitations.

Having lived my life alternating between artist and educator, I now hope to continue my own artistic
path while learning from my mentor’s passion and love for people. If I, as an educator for 37 years, have
a mission, it is to plant and nurture the seeds of art in the next generation—those who long to realize
their dreams. Through art, I hope to create opportunities to practice beauty, virtue, and humanity. In
order to help these young people achieve their goals, I believe it is essential to provide an environment
in which they can grow and thrive—supported by care, attention, and love.

This, in fact, aligns with the mission of Angeli Seong : to spread culture, to offer the joy of cultural expe-
riences, and to be a light in the darkness for the public. That is also why I choose to live not merely for
survival, but to truly exist—to live a life of meaning, connection, and purpose.
