Words of Artist

I’m a Ceramic Artist, So-Young LEE.
While living in Shanghai, China for around 20 years, I developed my passion and dream about “Art”
by travelling all over China whenever I had spare time. I started to learn about “Clay” in Jing De Zhen
in China, when I was preparing for the college entrance examination.

Based on that experience, I studied <Plastic Arts> in college and made a lot of different work pieces
using ceramics. During the vacation, I spent most of my time in Jing De Zhen and practiced how to
use clay, and that is where I fell in love with ceramics more.

“Clay” is a raw material that can be expressed in any other ways as desired, and I believe the process
of being reborn as another form through patience in a high-temperature kiln is another attraction
of ceramics. And although it is a combination that does not seem to fit at all, I combined ‘Star’ and
‘Universe’, because it also can be imagined into a number of other ways.

It is a process in which the majority of my image sculptures are expressed as ‘clay’ and the pieces are
gathered to be completed as ‘Stars’ and ‘Universe’.

During the process of preparation for the first individual exhibition in my life as an artist, the senior
artists in the same branch of mine truly encouraged and supported me a lot. Thank you from the
bottom of my heart.

I hope that those who appreciate my work pieces will be healed for a while, and hopefully a peaceful
day will come someday in their tiring and difficult daily lives.
