He was born in 1953 in Trabzon. He studied at the High Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts
(1972-1977). He started to work in IDGSA Painting Department.as a teaching staff. He became Associate Professor in
1990 and Professor in 1998 at the same institution.
He did artistic studies at Goldsmith's College, the University of London, where he went with a British Council scholarship
in 1986-1987. In 1993, he went to the USA with an EEF (Eisenhover Exchange Fellowship) scholarship, and conducted
studies and research on the subjects of "Development of education systems", culture and art.
AYDIN AYAN Starting from 1975, he participated in more than four hundred mixed/joint exhibitions at home and abroad. Prestigious
overseas galleries such as London University Goldsmith's Gallery and MSGSU. KSM. Tophane-i Amire, İş Sanat Kibele,
İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum, Ankara Contemporary Arts Center etc. He opened more than forty Solo Exhibitions
at important domestic exhibition venues.
He won a total of 19 national and international awards in painting competitions he participated in. 40th and 47th State
Painting and Sculpture Exhibition 'Achievement' awards, Republic Senate Foundation Atatürk Painting Competition 'First
Prize', Abdi İpekçi 'Peace and Friendship Painting First Prize', Russian Art Academies RAH Shuvalov Medal etc. received
awards.
His works are included in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir State Painting and Sculpture
Museums, Istanbul Modern, TR Ministry of Culture, Afyonkarahisar Şuhut Atatürk House (eleven paintings on the
subject of 'Liberation War Panorama'), Anadolu University, Hacettepe University, Gazi University Museums, Eisenhower
Fellowship (USA) collection, and various private and legal person and institution collections in Turkey and abroad.
The artist has copyright books and numerous published articles. There are also books written and published about him by
August Wiedmann, Ahmet Oktay, Turan Erol, Kıymet Giray, Burcu Pelvanoğlu and other important authors.
Ayan served as the Vice Rector of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Head of the Painting Department of the Faculty
of Fine Arts, and Director of the MSGSÜ Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, and retired from his institution in
December 2019. He is still an educator at the Faculty of Fine Arts at FSMVÜ and continues his artistic studies in his
ateliers in Istanbul and Şile.
