                                 You are not your body, they say.

                                            That organic matter


                                            succumbs to decay.


                                 That is simply dressing, you see.

                                The truth of you lies far beneath.






                            You are not your emotions, they say.

                   Those flashes of feeling that your heart betray.


                                That is simply flavour, you know.

                                    Just as it comes, so it will go.






                            You are not your thoughts, they say.

                   The conscious cacophony that won’t go away.


                                That is simply a distraction, yes?

                        Confused and convoluted, flawed at best.






                                               So tell me then,

                                                   What am I?


                                            What is left of me?


                                           If I achieve serenity,

                                         Will I just cease to be?
