LOOSE PARTS– Being able to play with things in a variety of ways as well as having
numerous variables in the play setting is invaluable to children in terms of their imagination
and creativity. Being given the time, space and resources to play with whatever and however
the child wants to (resources can include staff, rope, sticks, tables, chairs, weird and wonderful
objects). Staff sometimes say that they feel like a bit of a spare part when the children do not
want to play with them, just remember you are a loose part, not a spare part. This sort of play
helps the child to take control over their play and builds confidence and self-esteem.
