MAKING A SPLASH!
Play Works Summer Programme
THEMED THURSDAYS & WET WEDNESDAYS
at The Hub
These events promote inclusive play, family
bonding, and access to food and fun for
local families during the summer holidays-
a period when many families face social
isolation, financial pressure, and limited
opportunities. 23 families attended Themed
Thursday sessions (Circus, Wizards &
Witches, and Wild West), while 19 children
attended Wet Wednesday sessions (smaller
versions of the Range events).
MANKY MONDAYS & WET WEDNESDAY
at The Range
These well-established events saw between
300-500 children and adults descend on
The Range for some large-scale summer
fun! Manky Monday includes powder paint
bombs, sand, mud, slime, and porridge
messy play and activities, while Wet
Wednesday includes water slides, a dunk
tank, water fights, and a toddler splash area.
Both are designed to encourage
adventurous and intergenerational outdoor
play and give local people the opportunity to
play, build friendships, and enjoy the
outdoors.
“Summer with a large family can be both stressful and very expensive. Mummy guilt can
be big when you can't afford to take your kids to places their friends are going. I feel the
summer programme is something free, enjoyable and something we can all do
together. It breaks up the long days with outdoor fun. As always I would like to thank the
staff for all of their help over the year and summer. The summer programme lasted
three weeks but the planning and organising must have taken so much longer. The
summer programme is a much needed programme for the community.”
