The Sanger City Council is con- ducting a special meeting at 5 p.m, Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Council Chamber at 1700 7th St.
The bulk of the meeting will be closed session to discuss potential litigation to the city from the Depart- ment of Labor and the Sanger Fire-
fighters Association. Also scheduled in closed session is a conference with labor negotiators from Local 39, Sanger Firefighters Association and Sanger Police Officers Association.
There will be a public forum for comment before the council goes into closed session. A report/review from the city attorney will follow the closed session.
Driver suffers moderate injury in July 30 crash

A slow-moving San Joaquin Valley Railroad freight train struck a vehicle north of down- town Sanger on July 30, resulting in moderate in- juries to a woman.
The unidentified woman was driving her vehicle west on 5th Street at about 10:45 a.m., just as the north- bound train traveling about 20 miles per hour reached the crossing. The train struck the ve- hicle, causing a moder-

Hilario Bartolome Gaspar Hilario Bartolome
Gaspar of Cutler died July 27 in Visalia. He was 70.
Mr. Gaspar worked as a farm laborer.
He is survived by his spouse, Lydia Sales Gaspar, one son, one daughter and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sun- day, Aug. 8, at Dopkins Dinuba Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Cutler. Buri- al will follow at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba.

via of Dinuba died July 31 in Dinuba. She was 56.
Ms. Herevia worked as a bookkeeper.
She is survived by her mother, one son, one sister and two brothers.
No services are scheduled at this time. Dopkins Dinuba Funer- al Chapel is handling the arrangements.

of Sultana died July 18 in Sultana. She was 82.
Mrs. Luna worked as a packer.
She is survived by one son, two daughters, one brother, two sisters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held July 28 at St. Cath- erine's Catholic Church in Dinuba. Burial was at Smith Mountain Ceme- tery in Dinuba.

Hugo E. Rios of Oro- si died July 22 in Dinu- ba. He was 28.
Mr. Rios worked as a packer.
He is survived by one daughter, his par- ents, three brothers and two sisters.
A funeral mass will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug 6, at Iglesia Uncion Primitiva Apostolica in Sultana. Burial will fol- low at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba.

Arlene C. Swanson
of Sanger died July 26. She was 87.
Mrs. Swanson worked as a supervisor
for J.C. Penney.
She is survived by
one son, one daugh- ter, two sisters, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Krider.
A memorial grave- side service will be held at 11 a.m. Mon- day, Aug. 9, at Sanger Cemetery.

According to Sanger police, the train sounded its horn several times
before crossing the in- tersection.
The train was stopped for more than an hour, and the train backup blocked crossings at 7th and 9th streets.

nance work on the Fri- ant-Kern Canal Middle Reach Capacity Correc-
tion Project.

store a 33-mile stretch of the canal in the eastern portion of Fresno and Tulare counties that has lost more than half of its original capacity to sub- sidence.
