With the Immanuel High baseball team down 1-0 to Selma High entering the bottom of the third inning of their April 24 game, Josh Franco, Immanuel High head coach, huddled his team just outside the dugout.
Franco encouraged the Eagles not to let the game against the Bears, which was for first-place in the Central Se- quoia League, slip away. He told them to flip the switch.
Immanuel then scored two runs in
the bottom of the third inning and four runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Bears 6-2 at the Immanuel High Sports Complex.
“This was a big win,” Franco said. “This was the first must-win game for us if we wanted to stay in contention for the league title.”
The Eagles lost to the Bears 4-3 on April 27 in Selma to fall into a three-way tie for first place in the league.
As of May 1, the Eagles were tied with Selma High and Exeter High. Each team is 7-4 in the CSL.
In the April 24 game, Roman Rosales
was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings, allowing just two runs and strik- ing out four batters.
Rosales also had three RBIs, while Bradley Collins-Dunn and Dylan Kent each had one.
“Roman didn't have his best stuff to- day, but he found a way to grind and get the win,” Franco said.
On April 24, with the Eagles trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Ro- sales hit a single that scored two runs to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
