STAIR CLIMB
Continued from page A8
"I was 8 years old," Solis said. "I was in 3rd grade, and I remember my parents flipping the channels and every chan- nel they flipped to was the towers burning."
Solis said the stair climb event means a lot to him because as be- came older, he began to realize the severity of the 9/11 and how it changed the country.
The department be- gan the event with just six firefighters, it's since grown to have families also participating.
"Being involved in fire and EMS for over ten years," said Randy Celedon. "This means alotandit'smywayof honoring the fallen fire- fighters."
According to firehero. org, the memorial stair climb event is practiced across the country on the anniversary of Sept. 11.
Each participant pays tribute to the New York City Fire Department's fallen first responders by climbing 110 stories to simulate the 110 sto- ries of the World Trade Centers, as well as sym- bolically completing the journey they took to save the victims of that day.
