Sunrise Kiwanis awards bikes for perfect attendance

• BRISSA REYES – She will graduate with a 4.18 GPA and recently was honored as an AP Scholars Award re- cipient. She will attend either University of California, Santa Barbara or University of Cal- ifornia, Berkeley. She is con- sidering a major in biology, with a minor in English.
Reyes has been a member of Students for Peace and En- tre Nous, for which she is the historian. She also is a mem- ber of the Reedley High Pirate Marching Band and also per- forms with the school’s jazz band and pep band.
Reyes also writes for the online Kings River Life Mag- azine. Her interests include reading, writing and playing music.
At RHS, she has taken eight AP courses and two Honors courses. Her favorite class? Chicano Latino Ameri- can history.
• CLAIRE KAPRIELIAN- SANTOS – She will graduate
This is the 81st annual year of the speech contests organized by Lions Clubs in California. The goal is to en- courage students to develop skills and confidence in public speaking, research and speech drafting. These are all skills that will benefit them in their future careers and in life.
The winner of the April 28 competition will advance to the area contest in May. The Multiple District Four final contest will follow in June.
Through the first three levels, Juarez earned a total of $450.

The Reedley Sunrise Kiwanis Club continues to encourage children to focus on education with the club's bicycle donation program for students who have perfect at- tendance.
In March, the civic organiza- tion presented bicycles at three elementary schools in the Kings Canyon Unified School district.
Each school typically conducts a random drawing for the bike from among all the students with per- fect attendance at that point.

She has been a member of Catholics in Action and Entre Nous and currently is presi- dent of both clubs. She also has been in the RHS choir program and this year is a member of the Madrigals.
Kaprielian-Santos also has been on the water polo and swim teams, at the varsity level for the past two years. She was selected to the All North Yosemite League First Team in both sports.
She has taken five AP courses and and one Honors course. Her favorite class is ASB or Principles of Leader- ship.
Kaprielian-Santos attend- ed St. La Salle Catholic School before Reedley High. She said that kind of transition can be difficult, but “at Reedley High School, it was an easy transi- tion for me. Being involved in so many things just helped me meet so many people and learn so many things.

“And, of course, I’m thank- ful for the Lions Club that gives us this great opportunity to develop our public speaking skills,” she said.

At RHS, he has been a member of the California Scholarship Federation, Entre Nous, the Leo Club, Science Olympiad and the Forestry Club. He told the KCUSD trustees that a Forestry Club team this year participated in the Forestry Challenge in Santa Cruz and won first place in one of the competi- tions.
Reitz was named Leo of the Year in 2016.
He also has been a mem- ber of the JV boys water polo team and the varsity swim team.
