a lot of their audience mem- bers “are going to know how swing works. So, if we’re up there doing something totally wrong, they’re going to say, ‘That’s not how it works.’ We really put a lot of effort into getting it right.”
While song and dance take center stage, Gill also wants people to know that comedy is part of the show as well. For example, there’s the song “Bli-Blip” in which a couple on a date sing “scat” style but their movements let the audi- ence know what they’re talk- ing about, Gill said.
Another example: “Cry Me a River” is known as a torch song, a ballad. In this show, a trombone player and singer in a relationship com- municate through this tune, with the musician mimicking the melody to sound like cry- ing. “It ends up being a little lovers’ quarrel, a comedic one,” Gill said.

From 2002 to 2005, Salas said he was in 11 or 12 Fresno-area productions and then stopped for 12 years. He returned to local theater last summer for “Fiddler on the Roof” at CenterStage Clo- vis Community Theatre. He’s been busy ever since in other area productions, including “Swing!”

or only on singing. He was drawn by the RCTC show’s combination of singing and dancing, which would fur- ther help him hone his return to the stage.
“Literally, it’s really about getting back into the swing of things,” Salas said, with a grin.
He described his char- acter as the “one who wants to have fun. I’m very flirta- tious. I’m always on the go, trying to get the next girl in the show.”
This is Salas’ first expe- rience with RCTC and the Reedley Opera House. “I’ve never seen a show here, but I’d heard about this place and how they put on some pretty good productions,” he said.
