Pirates keep pace in NYL

After starting the season 4-6-4, the Reedley High Pi- rates boys soccer team has found their rhythm in North Yosemite League play.
The Pirates have won three straight games and as of Jan. 23 sat in second place in the NYL.
Reedley High edged McLane High School 4-3 on Jan. 16 at Sal Gonzalez Field and defeatedFresnoHigh5-2 on Jan. 18 in Fresno.
“We have been playing with more consistency over the past three games,” said Eric Velarde, Reedley High Pirates head coach. “It is a good sign that we are scor- ing and our defense has been much better.”
No statistics were avail- able for the Jan. 16 game.
On Jan. 18, the Pirates had five different players score goals in a the 5-2 win over Fresno High.
Noel Salinas, Alexis Rodri- guez, Emmanuel Ibarra, Phil- lip Rico and Robert Alcantar each scored.
Reedley High played Hoover High School on Jan. 24. No score was available at presstime.
The Pirates will play Sun- nyside High School on Thurs- day, Jan. 25, in Fresno.
They then will play Roos- evelt High on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Sal Gonzalez Field.

The Reedley High Pirates boys soccer team defeated Fresno High School 5-2 on Jan. 18. As of Jan. 23, the Pirates are 3-1 in the North Yosemite League and in second place.

David Santesteban is the new Director of Athletics at Reedley College.
The announcement of his appointment was made in a statement released by the col- lege on Jan. 15.
“I am thrilled to have Dr. Santesteban come home to join our team,” said Sandra

Led by 22 points from Aaliyah Seuell, the Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball team earned their first Cen- tral Sequoia League win of the season.
The Eagles defeated Dinu- ba High School 45-37 on Jan. 19 at Immanuel High School.
Krystale Gutierrez had 16.
“The Dinuba victory was the epitome of a big win,” said Phillip Todd, Immanuel High head coach. “Even though the officiating took a turn in the second half, the girls came out with intensity, were on one accord, and decisively won the game.”
Immanuel was coming off a 58-57 loss to Exeter High
School on Jan. 17 at Immanuel High.
As of Jan. 23, Immanuel was 12-8 overall and 1-2 in the CSL.
On Jan. 17, the Eagles lost to the Monarchs 58-57 at Im- manuel High School.
Gutierrez had 18 points to lead the Eagles. Seuell had 15 points, while Ava Galpin had 12.
“The loss to Exeter at the buzzer really ignited the fire inside and paying attention to details, was the focus coming into the contest against Di- nuba,” Todd said. “They are practicing, studying and play- ing with a sense of urgency and not waiting until the 4th quarter to play with this ur- gency.”
The Eagles played Kings- burg High School on Jan. 24.
No score was available at presstime.
They then will play at Central Valley Christian High School on Thursday, Jan. 26, in Visalia.
The Eagles play Selma High School on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Immanuel High.
“We have to keep focus, stay the course, do not allow anyone or anything to effect the teams' chemistry,” Todd said. “Don't take any game or team for granted. Stay humble and hungry.”

Orange Cove High and Reedley High wrestling set for Manning Melee
The Reedley High Pirates and Orange Cove High Titans wrestling teams will dual on Friday, Jan. 26, in the Ninth Annual Manning Melee.
The match will start at 6 p.m. inside the gym at Reedley High School.

Reedley High has won all eight duals between the two Kings Canyon Unified Schools.
