midst of winding up the busy first semester of the academ- ic year. As Principal John Ah- lin said, it’s a nice, interesting way to involve students and the RHS community.
“And, it brings a little joy to the campus and lightens the mood at the end of the year,” he said.
The door decorators typically use colored paper, markers, pastels, crayons and occasionally three-di- mensional yuletide decor, such as stockings, tinsel and wrapped gifts.
“It just spreads cheer.”
– Chrisann Boone, RHS activities director
Chrisann Boone, the RHS activities director, said that about 25 doors were deco- rated this year.
She said it attracts par- ticipants because it’s a friendly competition involv- ing teachers and students, “and they’re just having fun with it.”
Boone doesn’t serve as a judge but says she was im- pressed by the creativity and imagination. And, like Ahlin, she appreciates what the decorated doors bring this time of year. “It just spreads cheer,” Boone said.
Following Smith’s sweep- stakes, first place went to the RHS Attendance Office. They took the design beyond the door and used space around it to create a snow globe design called “A Pirate Christmas.”
The globe shows the cam- pus’ administration building on a snowy night. Pictures of staff members and atten- dance student assistants are in the center of the snow- flakes.
Michelle Caban, an at- tendance secretary, said that Sylvia Ginder, also an atten-

Elementary Updates
We had a wonderful turn-
dance secretary, presented the idea. Ginder said she had been browsing through web- sites for ideas for this year’s contest and was drawn to im- ages of a snow globe.
Caban said everyone in the office had a part in help- ing create it and noted that RHS junior Michael Marin drew the administration building and did the lettering.
Second place went to Room 703, where Alejandra Tabares teaches Spanish. She also took the design beyond just the door. Her bright “Feliz Navidad” theme fea- tures Santa Claus wearing a colorful sombrero and, on both sides of the door, are tall green-colored paper cac- tus each adorned a string of paper holiday lights and wrapped gift boxes.
Two entries tied for third:
• The door to Room B7, where Connie Wiebe is the art teacher, is a fun-filled depiction of “Holiday Sweat- ers Around the World.” It includes an image of a world
out at the Reedley Electrical Farm Equipment Parade. We would like to give a huge “thank you” to everyone who helped with decorating the float or provided lights and/ or cookies.
The kids had a great time, and we are so thankful that Jesus is our Superhero!
On Friday, Dec. 15, Cha- pel will be presented by the first grade. The students have been working hard and are very excited to share cha- pel with everyone.
Our annual Christmas program will be on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Immanuel Chapel. Have a great week everyone, and go Eagles!

globe and many miniature photos of holiday sweaters, with the faces of students and cartoon characters placed on top of them as if they’re wearing them. Like other decorated entries, the design expanded to inside a glass window next to the door.
• The Monte Vista School program in Room 402 chose a red brick fireplace scene for its door, with a Christ- mas tree atop the mantle. The tree topper is RHS’s own “Pirate Pete,” sporting a Santa Claus hat. The mantle also is adorned with small red Christmas stockings and gift boxes.
The judges included Robin Tyler, president of the Kings Canyon Unified School District governing board, and Stephen Tasy, a special day class teacher. His creations with Cris Perez, an English language learner

2018 Benefit Auction
St. La Salle School will host the 27th Annual Benefit Auction on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at the Reedley Commu- nity Center. It will be another memorable event filled with fun and fellowship and all for a great cause.
St. La Salle School, estab- lished in 1953, was founded by the Christian Brothers. More than 2,000 students have graduated from our school. Today, St. La Salle educates more than 300 students from preschool to eighth grade. Our students come from Reedley as well as nearby communi- ties and the mountain com- munities.
It is costly to operate a quality school like ours. Ma- ny families couldn’t afford such an education without the help of our annual fundrais- ers. These events generate 40 percent of the school budget.
As we prepare for another great auction, we need your help to make it a success. We hope you will consider donat- ing an item or service for the silent or live auctions. You also can be a sponsor and be recognized for your generous support in our Auction Pro- gram booklet, which is given to all attendees. All donations, large or small, can make a dif- ference. (Donations are tax deductible to the extent al- lowed by the law.) Please give with your hearts and make a difference that will last a life- time.
