The Reedley High Pi- rates girls basketball team earned their first win of the season on Dec. 5, defeat- ing Tulare Western 54-51 in Tulare.
Kiki Henry led the Pi- rates with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Marissa Alvarez had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Madison Haney and Re- ese Kubo each had 10 points. Haney also had 10 rebounds.
The Pirates then com-
peted in the Hoover High tournament Dec. 7 to Dec. 9 in Fresno.
They went 1-2 in the tournament and are 2-5 over-
all.
On Dec. 7, the Pirates
lost 49-21 to Yosemite High School in the first round of the Hoover Tournament.
Precious Hawkins led the Pirates with nine points. On Dec. 8, the Pirates

The Phillip Todd era of Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball is off to a fast start.
Todd, who is in his first year as Immanuel head coach after former coach Josh Jus- tin left to spend more time with family, led the Eagles to a 53-43 victory over Edison High School on Dec. 5.
“I saw bits and pieces of excellence tonight,” Todd said. “I thought we played hard. I am proud of my girls for fac- ing some adversity and not backing down.”
Senior Krystale Guti- errez had 24 points as the Eagles defeated the Tigers at Immanuel High School.
Sophomore Aaliyah Seuell had 11 points, while Amanda Scheidt and Jaiden Purewal each had six.
Immanuel raced out to an early 15-7 lead after one quarter of play and led 28-13 at halftime.
Early in the second quar- ter, with the Eagles holding a 31-21 lead, the Tigers went on an 11-0 run to take a 32-31 lead. Immanuel battled back and ended the third quarter with a 38-34 lead.
“They showed resiliency,” Todd said. “They had every op- portunity to put their heads down and let the game get away from us. But we battled back to take the momentum into the fourth quarter.”
The Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

RHS outruns Mustangs,
earn first win of season

A goal by Emma Mulli- gan 23 minutes into the game against the Selma High School Bears on Dec. 6 proved to be all the Reedley High Pirates needed.
The goal gave the Pirates a 1-0 win over the Bears at Sal Gonzalez Field.
Reedley High was com- ing off a high-scoring double overtime 7-6 victory over Golden West High on Dec. 5 in Visalia.
In that game, Mulligan scored three goals, while Jes- sica Perez, Alondra Becerra, Miko Sunamoto and Jennifer Gordillo each had one.
Reedley High then went 2-2 at the Peggy Renberg Tournament Dec. 8 and 9 at Hoover High School in Fresno.
On Dec. 8, the Pirates opened the tournament with a
3-1 loss to Edison High School in the first game of the tour- nament.
Later in the day, they lost 1-0 to Redwood High School.
On Dec. 9, Reedley High defeated Orange Cove High School 6-0 to advance to the Division III Championship.
The Pirates played Sierra Pacific High School from Hanford.
The teams completed regu- lation in a 1-1 tie, but the Pirates earned the win in a penalty shoot- out.
The Pirates played at Kingsburg High School on Dec. 13.

Kingsburg High is the de- fending CIF Central Section Division IV Champion.
They then will play a game on Wednesday, Dec. 20, against the Buchanan High School Bears in Clovis.
RHS Boys Soccer
The Reedley High boys soccer team earned their first win of the season on Dec. 5 with a 4-2 triumph over Gold- en West High School at Sal Gonzalez Field.
The Pirates then tied Lind- say High School 0-0 on Dec. 7 in Lindsay.
Reedley High hosted Orosi High School on Dec. 11 and Kingsburg High School on Dec. 13.

Reedley High will com- pete in the Cougar Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16, at Clovis High in Clovis.
The Pirates open the tournament at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 against South Bakers- field.

The Immanuel High Eagles boys basketball team fell to 3-4 overall after los- ing three games at the Fa- ther Barry Christmas Classic Dec. 7 to 9 in Carmichael.
On Dec. 7, the Eagles lost to St. Joseph Notre Dame from Alameda 65-59 in the first round of the tournament.
Nate Kendricks had 30 points, while Winston Williams had nine points.
On Dec. 8, Immanuel lost to St. Francis High from Mountain View 88-73.
Kendricks scored 49 points and had five rebounds. Williams had 12 points
and 10 rebounds.
On Dec. 9, the Eagles fell
91-82 to St. Paul High from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Kendricks led the Eagles
with 30 points and six re- bounds.
Gavin Lloyd had 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Shawn Rodgers had 13 points.
Kendricks was named to the All-Tournament team.
Immanuel High is compet- ing in the Hoover Invitational Tournament Dec. 13 to Satur- day, Dec. 16, at Hoover High School in Fresno.
The Eagles opened the tournament on Dec. 13 against Clovis High School.

IHS Girls Soccer
The Immanuel High Ea-
gles girls soccer team is 2-0 on the season, following a 3-1 vic- tory over Parlier High School on Dec. 8 at the Immanuel High School Sports Complex.
Immanuel took a 2-0 lead into halftime and held on in the second half.
Rebecca Deaver scored all three goals for the Eagles. Immanuel opened the season on Nov. 30 with a 1-0 win over Wonderful Prep Academy in Delano.
Kaity Deaver scored the only goal, while goalie Reagan Ott had five saves.
The Eagles played Ker- man High School on Dec. 12.
