Nelson, the officer promoted to corpo- ral, was hired with the Sanger Police Depart- ment in 2014. Nelson graduated from Fresno City College with a de- gree in criminology, and prior to coming to Sanger she worked as a reserve officer for the city of Kingsburg.
Garza, who was promoted to sergeant, joined the department in 2005. Also in attendance at the ceremony were Garza’s immediate and extended family — in- cluding his brother, Joe Garza, who currently serves as the police chief in the city of Reedley.

Carrillo began his law enforcement career with Sanger in 2001. He worked in various posi- tions within the depart- ment, including with the investigations unit, and also served as a field training officer for new hires.
Boust has been with Sanger since 2000. A graduate of California State University, Fresno and the Fresno City Po- lice Academy, Boust also served as a field training officer and was part of the graffiti enforcement team among other roles.
“I want to give credit to the men and women of the Sanger Police De- partment,” Rodriguez said.
“They’ve done an amazing job of prevent- ing crime, reducing crime, safety issues, and just quite frankly mak- ing the community of Sanger safer for every- one. And that’s a good thing.”

Leal elected president, Gomez secretary for SCCCD

Board members of State Center Community College District (SCCCD) elected John Leal as board president at its Dec. 17 board meeting.
In addition, Annalisa Perea was elected vice president and Magda- lena Gomez was elected secretary. Gomez is the trustee for Area 4, which consists of Dinuba, Reed- ley, Sanger and sur- rounding communities. Leal represents Area 3, which includes south- east Fresno, Fowler, Ca- ruthers and Kingsburg.
SCCCD is governed by a board of seven trustees. The executive committee is joined by trustees Richard Caglia, Deborah J. Ikeda, Bobby Kahn and Eric Payne.
