Reedley High's baseball and soft- ball teams drew opening round home games in the Central Section Divi- sion 3 playoffs this week while the Immanuel High Eagles were seeded
second in Division 3 baseball, assur- ing them three home games should they reach the finals.
The Eagles (22-6) who shared the Central Sequoia League champi- onship with division top seed Selma, opened postseason action Wednesday with a May 8 home game against No. 15 seed Santa Maria. A win would advance the Eagles to a quarterfinal Friday, May 10, at The Yard against the winner of the No. 7 Kerman vs.

Reedley, which went 17-8 and fin-
ished second in the North Yosemite League at 8-2, drew the No. 5 seed in Division 3 and opened playoff ac- tion with a May 8 home game against No. 15 Atascadero. The Greyhounds
entered the game with a 9-17 record and had an early season loss to NYL champion Fresno High.
If the Pirates won, they would play the winner of No. 4 Mission Prep and No. 13 North on Friday, May 10. If seed prevail, the RHS-Mission Prep game would be in San Luis Obispo.

champions drew the No. 7 seed and hosted Tulare Union on May 7 at
RHS field. Results were unavailable at press time. If the Pirates (17-10, 9-1 NYL) won, they likely would travel to No. 2 seed Templeton for a Thursday, May 9, quarterfinal game. If unseed- ed St. Joseph pulled off an upset on May 7, the Pirates would host.
Immanuel High's girls (4-19-1, 0-12 Central Sequoia League) were unseeded in the section Division 5 playoff bracket and played at No. 3 seed Kern Valley on May 7.

After winning a sec- ond straight Northern California Regional Cham- pionship earlier this week in Woodland, the Reedley College men’s golf team will try for a California Community College Ath- letic Association champi- onship in Napa on Mon- day, May 13.
Head Coach Scott Stark’s Tigers won the re- gional title by 13 strokes on May 6 at the Yolo Fli- ers Golf Club in Wood- land.
On April 29, Reedley won its fifth straight Big 8 Conference championship by 20 strokes over Folsom Lake at the Stockton Golf and Country Club with a team score of 373.
Leading the way for the Tigers in Stockton was Tommy O’Rourke, who shot a superb round of 72 (one over par), and finished tied for second in the overall tournament. Morgan Cooper posted a nice round of 73, finishing in a tie for fifth while Bai- ley Flickinger and Dylan Otto each shot rounds of 75 for the Tigers. Xavier Coreno carded a round of 78 to cap the scoring on the day for Reedley.
The victory extended the Tigers’ conference championship streak to five consecutive years (2015-2019) and eight of the past nine. The Tigers were well represented on the Big 8 South Divi- sion All-Conference team with five players receiv- ing honors. Cooper was named the Most Valuable Player and O’Rourke, Flickinger, Otto and Core- no also were unanimous first-team selections.
SOFTBALL Reedley College two wins from state finals
After sweeping Ca- brillo College in Aptos last weekend, the Reedley Col- lege softball team is just two victories away from reaching the California Community College Ath- letic Association softball championship in Bakers- field on May 16-19.
But to get there, head Coach Kathy Kuball's Ti- gers need to get two vic- tories over the second- ranked team in Northern California, the 36-4 San Jose City College Jaguars in San Jose on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11.
The first game of the best-of-three series is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on the 10th before ac- tion continues on May 11.

Reedley softball wins 4th straight league crown

The Reedley High girls track and field team made it three consecutive North Yo- semite League team champi- onships in convincing style on May 3, rolling up 177 points including four individual vic- tories to overpower the field at the league meet at Sunny- side High School in Fresno.
The Pirates finished 38 points ahead of runner-up Sunnyside's 139 score. Reed- ley's varsity boys compiled 71 points good for fourth place behind champion Roo- sevelt (133), McLane (131) and Sunnyside (107).
Junior Trinity Toews was involved in three of the RHS girls' individual victories, two in individual sprints. Toews set a personal best of 26.97 seconds to capture the 200 meters after earlier breezing to the 400 meters in 1 minute, 1.64 seconds. Toews also teamed with teammates Lauryn King, Emely Torres and Leslie Mendoza to finish first in the 4x400 relay in 54.74.

Junior Toews beat out freshman Wheeler to win the race in a personal-record 26.97 seconds, and also won the 400 meters in 1 minute, 1.64 seconds.

The Pirates and Immanu- el High competed at the CIF East Area Championships in Tulare on May 8, as athletes attempted to qualify for the Central Section meet on Sat- urday, May 18, in Clovis.

posted four first place fin- ishes – three by junior Caris- sa Hall — to place fourth in the Central Sequoia League championships at Immanuel Sports Complex on May 1. The Eagles scored 84 points to trail champion Kingsburg (94), Central Valley Christian (92) and Hanford West (90) with the top three finishers separated by just four points.
Hall set a persona record in the long jump by leaping 17 feet, 11 inches. She also won the 100 meter hurdles (16.77

Four Riverview K-8 School girls track athletes completed their postseason in style at the Valley Youth Championship Meet at Buchanan High School on May 4.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Maysi Priest, Ava Rodriguez, Sienna Ramos and Real Morales captured first place in the girls midget division at the qualifying meet featuring top qualifiers for elementary and middle school classes. That triumph followed the quartet's victory at the Junior Fresno Relays on April 27.
In addition, the team finished second in the Valley in their age class in the 4x100 meter relay
sprint to follow up a first place finish at the Junior Fresno Re- lays.
The girls are coached by Stan Kanawyer and Tony Cortez.
The performance at the Valley Youth Championships capped a strong spring season run for the team, especially in the 4x100 relay. Earlier wins this season came at the Fresno County Area 1 meet on April 6 at Immanuel Sports Complex and at the Fresno County Championships on April 13 in Sanger.
Priest, Rodriguez, Ramos and Morales also won the Fresno County Championships in the 4x400 meters during their first competition as a unit in that event.
Mulligan named NYL's top female scholar-athlete

Reedley High School senior Emma Mulligan has been named the North Yosemite League Female Scholar Athlete by the Cen- tral Section of the California Interscholastic Federation.
Mulligan joined male and female scholar athletes named by each league of the Central Section on April 29 in Visalia to be recognized for athletic as well as scholastic achieve- ments during their high school career. In addition to recogni- tion of their achievements, each scholar athlete received a $500 scholarship.

The Reedley Bucca- neers reached the finals of the Central Valley Ath- letic League postseason tournament by edging Sanger, 7-6, at Reedley High junior varsity dia- mond on Mway 6,
The Buccaneers — consisting of eighth-grade players from Kings Can- yon Unified School Dis- trict schools — improved to 9-0 on the season with the victory.
The Buccaneers will take on Thomas Jefferson Middle School of Madera at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Reedley High JV diamond to decide the CVAL tournament cham- pion. The finals matchup was postponed by a day because of a lack of um- pires.
