Bullard and broke down some of the key elements that went into it. “The effort was great, obviously,” he said.
He also talked with his assistants about turnovers, which had been haunting the team. But in this case, turnovers didn’t turn into points for Bullard. Sanger’s defense went to work. And that got them briefly discussing merits of bad turnovers vs. not-so-bad turnovers.
“We had some good shooting from Jackie (Kulow),” Campbell said. “A lot of that was set up because the girls were unselfish, because that’s Jackie’s job to be a shooter.
“(And) a lot of good distribution of the ball at all times. We matched their intensity at all times. We were able to play at our pace pretty much from start to finish.”
Campbell said Bullard, coached by Cheyanne Alcala, is a quality team that had been 3-0 in league play prior to the game. The star player for the Knights, senior guard Shay Gibbons, scored nearly all her game- high 15 points at the free throw line, and Campbell said his athletes stayed on top of her.
“We did a good job in keeping in front of them,” he said. “We had to keep our pace and their best player frustrated.”

The Lady Apaches wrestling team competed at the Central Valley Invitational held by Golden West High on Jan. 26 and brought home a couple medals, placing seventh in the contest.
“The Lady Apaches brought home a gold medal from a fantastic performance by Elizabeth Zarate at 121 pounds,” said coach Narciso Juarez via email. "Zarate also brought home the outstanding lower weight wrestler of the tournament award. Thalia Willams also had a great tournament performance at 126 pounds and brought home the third place medal.”
Overall, the team competed against 29 schools.
“It was definitely a tough tournament for the girls,” Juarez said. “It was a wake-up call that they needed, and we can take it in a positive way. I am always telling them that small things make a big difference, and now is the time to clean up the little things in their technique in order to get big results.”

and two assists. Cuevas said his team lost it in the third quarter when they were outscored by 10 points.
“Every game coach says we win in the third quarter,” he said. “And today, we didn’t.”
Cuevas, a senior like Rodriguez and Norris, said he had been in a bit of a scoring slump the past few games. But against Edison he said, “I was comfortable. I wasn’t getting fazed at all.”
Senior Avery Chatman said, “We’re playing as a team that barely started playing basketball. We played with heart early on (in the season), but when we’re not playing as one, we choke. We don’t
said, “We’ve been practicing that lately to see if we can get better press. The practice has translated to the game. They were working together defensively, which set up the offense.
“The offense will come. That’s what gets you going. We stay in games because
of defense, not because we can outscore somebody. That’s not the team we are this year.”
