Ellen, a 1-year-old spayed pitbull mix, above, who is ready for adoption, went outside to have her photo taken and then back inside for some hugging and to pose with animal shelter volunteer Kim Reed next to the new washer and dryer Kim uses to keep shelter doggy blan- kets and sweaters clean.
"Frank Sani and his public works crew were just won- derful to come out and get our washer and dryer hooked up," said Kim.
"There are so many people to thank for all their help here at the shelter: anony- mous donors who gave us crates, beds and bankets; Kathy Miranda who paid to have all our dogs spayed and neutered; Stephanie Mead- ows who volunteers as JoJo's personal trainer; Morgan Shafer,RhondaMassey- Kacerek, Celeste Manelis, Gianna DiBello and anyone I'm forgetting who helps at the shelter or helped with our adoption event in Clovis on Saturday," said Kim.
The adoption event at the Clovis Tractor Supply
Store was very successful, but there are still several dogs that have been at the shelter for awhile, waiting for someone to take them to theirforeverhome. Jojois still at the shelter waiting for adoption. So is, Buster, Misty and Pumpkin, a new little one-year-old blonde chihua- hua girl. "We've also recently picked up several strays and the shelter is pretty full, said Kim.
Call Sanger animal control officer Mario Irazoqui at (559) 618-9071 to make an appointment to meet Ellen, Buster, Misty, JoJo or any of theotherdogshopingfora forever home.
Adoption requires spay- ing/neutering and bringing the rabies shot up to date. The only charge is to the veterinarian, Gregory Saiki DVM.

STATE OF THE CITY: Veteran's Park and JFK Park are on the 2018 "To Do" list. Continued from page 1A
Most of those projects will get started in June.
Gonzalez addressed rumors about a fenced off structure in Sanger Park, "We are installing new stainless fixtures, graffiti resistant paint, steel doors and LED lighting. The building has al- ready been re-roofed and will be completed early in 2018. So the rumors about the city trying to keep people out are not true. We are upgrading the park so that people can enjoy it for many years to come."
Veteran's Park and JFK Park are on the 2018 "To Do" list.
• "Veteran's Park is in the preliminary design stage and will go through several more stages before it is complete. It is being funded through grants and donations. The construction will tentatively start in 2018."
• "JFK park will be receiv- ing some upgrades. Some improvements have come from the citizens who wanted a space to play soccer. Other improvements include a new pavilion, basketball court lights and a water feature upgrade."
A 750,000 gallon water tank may be one of the most noticeable 2018 projects.
Construction will start on the mega tank in the fall of
2018, said Gonzalez. It's fund- ed in part with a $1.2 million grant from the Economic Development Administration.
Another conspicuous proj- ect is the reconstruction of Memorial Village in the 300 block of K Street, a project of the Fresno County Housing Authority, that will demolish 36 units and replace them with 48 modern housing units on an attractive campus for low-income families, said Gonzalez.
The new Memorial Village will include one through four bedroom apartments, a club- house, laundry facility and a gym. The new 52,000 square foot main building will be larger than the entire square footage of the old develop- ment. "The total project cost is approximately $12 million," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez closed his presentation by saying, "I hope after hearing about the accomplishments of 2017 and our plans for 2018 you are confident in knowing that our city is strong, that we - as your elected officials - are committed to protecting your safety and securing a vibrant future for years to come."

All You Need Is Love
There's a very slight chance of rain over the next few days.
But, after that, unfor- tunately, the long range forecast suggests our rainy season may be pretty much over.
Great weather is about the only way to describe what's in store over the next few weeks.
Daytime temperatures will be in the mid 70s and it could be close to 80 by next Friday.
We'll have warmer than usual nighttime tempera- tures too, with the mercury climbing into the 50s by next Wednesday.
