The Immanuel Junior High School girls won their league championship on Dec. 5 with a 2-0 victory over Clay Middle School of Kingsburg. Taylor Lathrop scored both goals for Immanuel. Earlier that day, the Eagles posted a 4-2 victory over Conejo Middle School of Laton in the semifinals. Allison Wood scored three goals while Kate Geiger collected the other score.

Reedley (4-3-2) and Tu- lare Union then battled to a scoreless draw on Dec. 8, advancing the Pirates to the final via goal differential. "The girls played well," said coach Bladimir Pizano.
Reedley hosts Kingsburg in a 6 p.m. non-league match- up Thursday, Dec. 13, then is home against defending section large schools cham- pion Buchanan at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
BASKETBALL
After recording wins over Lindsay and Yosemite last week, the Reedley High School varsity boys bas- ketball team took a season record of 5-1 into Dec. 12 action (played after press time) in the fourth annual Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic, which is played at both the Reedley High School and Dinuba High School gyms.
A win over Kennedy in the tournament opener
would put the Pirates in an 8 p.m.Thursday contest against either Monache or a rebuilding Selma High squad at Dinuba High School.
Both the Friday champi- onship semifinal round and all eight Saturday games will be played at Dinuba. Friday consolation action will be played in Reedley.
After winning the Kings- burg Lions Club Tournament on Saturday, tournament co- host Dinuba took a 7-0 re- cord into a Central Sequoia League opener with Hanford West on Tuesday.
Last week, the Pirates de- feated Lindsay 68-50 at home on Dec. 5 before a 72-42 win at Yosemite in Oakhurst on Friday night.
Immanuel
The Immanuel High School varsity boys basket- ball team took second place in the Eagles Classic tourna- ment in Monterey on Satur- day, dropping a 70-69 deci- sion to Alvarez in the cham- pionship game.
To reach the finals of the tournament, Immanuel defeated Kennedy 80-73 on Thursday night before a 63- 59 win on Friday night over North Monterey County.

Lady Tigers drop pair of games

lege Tiger women’s basketball team to 5-6 on the season.
Coach Dan Kilbert’s squad will close out the 2018 portion of the 20-18-19 portion of the season on Friday, as they be- gin play in the College of San Mateo Tournament with a 5 p.m. against the Butte Col- lege Roadrunners. After the tournament, the Lady Tigers are idle until a Jan. 4 home game with Bakersfield Col- lege. Reedley opens Central Valley Conference action at West Hills-Lemoore.
In last week’s action, Reedley scored 53 points in each of the two losses. On Dec. 4, I’man Conley had 17 points and 12 rebounds in only
26 minutes of action in a 62-53 lost to Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.
The next night, Reedley dropped a 67-53 decision to the Cabrillo College Seahawks in Aptos. Conley had another double-double, finishing with 17 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Tonee Bland fol- lowed with eight points and eight rebounds while Kristy Berry added nine rebounds but did not score. Sam Men- doza came off the bench and netted nine points.

rez had a rough afternoon last Saturday in Riverside as the Fresno Pacific Univer- sity Sunbirds dropped a 93-71 decision in an exhibition to NCAA Division-1 California Baptist.
Gutierrez missed all four of her shot attempts, three of them 3-pointers. The fresh- man also recorded three re- bounds, a steal and a turnover.
It was the seventh game in 15 days for the Sunbirds, who went 2-1 on a trip to Ha- waii before an 87-70 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills in a contest that Gutierrez did not see action.

Jordan Rodriguez, Immanuel High School senior guard, earned Most Valuable Player honors with three strong o ensive performances as the Eagles captured the Tournament of Champions title, As a junior, Rodriguez’s three- point shooting prowess helped IHS capture the Central Section Division III championship in 2018.
