Obituaries
Mary Hurtado
Mary Carrillo Hurtado of Sanger died July 10. She was 83.
Mrs. Hurtado worked as a raisin packer for Chooljian Brothers Packing.
She is survived by four sons, two daugh- ters, one brother, one sister, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchil- dren.
A funeral mass was held July 19 at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger.
Joe Lara
Joe Lara of Reedley died July 13. He was 85.
Mr. Lara, a veter- an of the U.S. Army, worked as a carpenter.
He is survived by two sons, one daughter, one brother, one sister, eight grandchildren and one great-grand- daughter.
No services were announced.
Monique Martinez Monique Julianne
Martinez of Sanger died July 16. She was 27.
Ms. Martinez worked as a reception- ist for Clinica Sierra Vista.

Steve Okino
Steve Okino of Sanger died July 13. He was 66.
Mr. Okino worked as a retail manager.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Okino, and his mother.
A funeral service was held July 24 at Calvary Fellowship Church in Sanger.
Frank Villegas
Frank Villegas of Cutler died July 19. He was 66
Mr. Villegas worked as a supervisor.
He is survived by his parents, two broth- ers, a daughter and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. fol- lowed by a service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Dinuba.

The Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District announced last week that it has collected West Nile virus positive mosqui- toes from areas within the cities of Fresno, Clovis, Sanger, Reedley,
Fowler, Selma, and Kingsburg.
In addition, St. Louis encephali- tis virus positive mosquitoes were collected from the city of Fresno, according to a July 18 news re-
lease from the district.

It was difficult for Victor Lopez Jr. to con- tain his frustration on the afternoon of July 18 as he stood and watched from across the street while his childhood home — located in the 400 block of Center Street in Orange Cove — burned to the ground.
"This makes me feel so terrible, man," he said. "It's so bad, my mom has
pictures of herself stand- ing right there in front of the house, with her black hat. This was our grand- parent's house. We grew up here, my mom grew up here."
The fire at the aban- doned structure began sometime after 3:30 p.m and had at one point threatened several near- by buildings, including a storage facility belong- ing to the Kings Canyon Unified School District.
"After receiving the
call for service we ar- rive to find the structure fully involved," said Ed- ward Hernandez, battal- ion chief for the Orange Cove Fire Department. "We had exposures to the north and the south of the buildings.
"The fire was quickly contained with the first engine on scene," Her- nandez continued. "The cause of the fire right now, is still under inves- tigation."
Although fire crews were still questioning what started the fire, Lo-
pez firmly believed that homeless people living at the residence were the ones responsible.
"My aunt mentioned it to me. She works here across the street and said there were complaints because the homeless were always inside the house," he said.
"We had another fam- ily member who would come to the house and tell the squatters to leave."

Y.C Aguilar (Chavelo)
Y.C Aguilar (Chavelo) of Orosi passed away on June 24, 2019. He was 88 years old. He served in the Air Force 1950-1952. Y.C became a barber in Cutler for many years.
Proceeded in death by wife Mary Louise, and son Larry. He is survived by his wife Esther, four daughters Antonia, Vir- ginia, Christine and  eresa, two sons Raymond and Andrew, two stepsons Mark and Nick, 37 grandchildren, 17 great gran
children and  ve great great grandchildren.
