Gerald “Vern” Ricketts
July 28, 1926 — June 11, 2019
In memory of Gerald “Vern”
Ricketts, loving father, born July 28,
1926 in Miami County, Kansas and
passing away on June 11th 2019 in
Fresno, California. Vern graduated
from the University of Kansas with
a degree in Journalism and was a
member of the Sigma Nu Frater-
nity. He served in the Navy during
World War II and then had a long
career in advertising and marketing
in the carpet business. After retiring
in 1976, he founded and ran a small gate design company for nearly 20 years. Vern was married to the late Rose Murphy Logan and was preceded in death by his brother, Donald, his first wife Nancy Vesy and his stepson Michael Logan.
Vern is survived by his 98-year-old brother Glenn, four chil- dren; Susan Mason and husband David, Douglas Ricketts and wife Lisa, Lindy Sherwood, stepdaughter Karen Logan Ewalt, and his loyal canine companion Taco. He was the proud grand- father of six and the great-grandfather of one. Vern was an avid reader and accomplished writer who could convey any senti- ment or story so clearly and elegantly with words and poems. Family time was a high priority, countless weekends were spent boating and skiing at the local lakes and exploring the national parks. The many Super 8 home movies and audio recordings he made bring myriad happy memories back to life. Favorite holidays and family gatherings were held at the beloved Sanger river bottom home and amazing pool, meticulously built stone by stone by Rose and Vern to feel like the Kings River.
Vern had a great sense of humor that is evidenced as kids of all ages still delight in finding the eyeglasses, coins, and other trinkets hiding in various pool crooks and nannies. There are fond memories of family BBQs and singing to the many tunes Vern played on the ukulele.
Friends and family will celebrate Vern’s life on what would have been his 93rd birthday, Sunday, July 28, at 1 p.m. at the Auberry Seventh-Day Adventist church, 34125 Powerhouse Road, Auberry, California, 93602. Inquires - 650-208-8228
