10 years and I got all my children back in my life today. I'm so grateful for life today and I'm truly blessed. It feels so right to be in my own skin. I'm free Tony, and as I look back it's only to remember that I've come a long way and I never wanna go back."
Terry Hernandez is a 54-year old adult school graduate with three daughters and seven grandkids, "I left traditional highschoolin1981togetmarried,"shesaid. "Iwas17years old and had just finished my sophomore year. At the time, Ididn’tthinkIneededaneducationtobeahousewife. I started living day by day, taking care of a husband and laterababy. my entire adult life. Now I have the confidence to pursue anything, the sky's the limit."
Michael Gonzalez, who has a daughter attending Sanger High School, started a business and got his own high school diploma because of Sanger Adult School. "In the process of finishing my classes to earn my high school diploma, I also attended the bus driver training course at Sanger Adult School," he said. "At the same time I also managed to start up our own family business, LNM Party Rentals."
It just took the right motivation, " One night my daughter asked if I had graduated high school and of course my answer was 'No.' That made me stop and realize that I had to go back toschoolandgetmyhighschooldiploma. Icontinuously motivate her to do well in school and push her to finish high school and further her education to a college or university so shedoesnotmakethesamedecisionsIdidinhighschool. COUNCIL: Measure S money is likely, once again, going to be a controversial budget topic. Continued from page 1A
be used to help balance the general fund. The Measure S sales and use tax which
usually produces a little more than $2 million each year goes into one of those designated funds. That is, the money is only supposed
to be used for public safety purposes. That money was a controversial issue during the council's budget discussions last year and is likely to be just as controversial this year. (See Measure S committee member James Miser's comments on page 3A.)
The workshop is not the only thing on the council's agenda.
There are a couple of public hearings on annual assessments for lighting districts and two other items that would ordinarily draw
a crowd - a new contract with the chamber of commerce and the council's opportunity to approve a Measure S Citizen's Oversight Committee recommendation for funding nonprofit gang and drug prevention projects.
