A 26-year-old Fresno man was killed on Jan. 10 when the compact car he was driving was broadsided by a tractor trailer hauling a load of lemons on a rural road west of Sanger.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified the victim as Malik Blakeney.
According to a report from the California High- way Patrol, Blakeney was driving a 2021 Hyundai Ion north on Temperance Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. when he reached the intersection of North Avenue. According to the CHP, Blakeney failed to stop for the posted sign and drove directly into

The front left bum- per of the truck struck the right front passen- ger door of the Hyundai, and the truck driver lost control as the cab was rotated clockwise and caused the load of lem- ons to spill onto the road- way. The driver was able to regain control and bring the truck to a stop.
Blakeney was pro- nounced dead at the scene, the CHP report- ed. The truck driver, 58-year-old Juan Marti- nez Cabrera sustained minor injuries and was transported to Commu- nity Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The City of Sanger seeks applicants for PFA Board and EIFD
The City is now accepting applications to fill two (2) positions on the Public Financing Authority (PFA) Board for the Sanger North Academy Corridor Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD), with a term expiration of 2024.
The PFA is the governing board for the EIFD. The EIFD provides financing of public capital facilities and other specified projects of community wide significance that provide significant benefits to properties within the EIFD and the surrounding community. The board consists of five members, including three members of the City Council, and two members of the public. Members will serve two-year terms. Applicants must be a registered voter, employee, or representative of a non-profit entity, educational institution, or other corporate citizen within the City of Sanger, or former elected or appointed City of Sanger representatives.
The board will meet annually, and as necessary to perform the responsibilities under the EIFD Law, including the review and approval of an Infrastructure Finance Plan, and the consideration of bonds to finance the projects defined by the Infrastructure Financing Plan. New members can anticipate multiple meetings during the first 3-6 month of appointment and then annual and as necessary meetings.
Interested community members with expertise in business, finance, or community development, are encouraged to apply. Applications are available at the City of Sanger City Clerk’s Office, 1700 7th Street, Sanger, California 93657 or online at www.cityofsanger.net. The application deadline is 5 PM, Friday, January 21, 2022. Applications may be submitted electronically, by regular mail, or in person. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for January 25 and 26, 2022. Appointment is tentatively scheduled for the City of Sanger City Council meeting of February 3, 2022.
