RHS football opens practice

The Reedley High Pirates football team opened practice in preparation for their 2018 season on July 23 at Sal Gonzalez Field. Reedley High opens the season on Friday, Aug. 17 at Sanger High School. The Pirates home opener will be Friday, Aug. 24 against Sierra Pacific High School at Sal Gonzalez Field. A full preview of the Pirates season will be published in a future edition of The Exponent.
Marlins swimmers compete at CVRSL finals

Jamilah Taylor, Reedley Marlins swimmer, competes in the nine-and 10-year-old 25 backstroke event during the Central Valley Recreational All-Stars Finals held at the Sanger High Swim Complex on July 22 in Sanger. Taylor finished in 19th place in the event. The Marlins team ended in 12th place out of the 22 teams that competed in the event.
Former RHS star Velarde shining for Fresno FC U23 team
Anthony Velarde, former Reedley High standout and current Fresno Pacific Univer- sity player, is a member of the Fresno FC U23 soccer team.
Velarde, who is entering his senior year at FPU, has helped lead the Fresno FC U23 team to a 6-6 record.
Velarde has started 13 games as midfielder for Fresno FC U23 and has three assists.

Swim teams from around the Valley converged at the Sanger High School Aquat- ics Complex on July 22, to compete in the Central Valley Recreational Swim League All-Star finals.
Hundreds of swimmers from ages six to 18 qualified for the event after a season long of CVRSL meets.
The Reedley Marlins swim team finished in 12th place overall out of 22 teams that took part in the meet.
The Marlins had a number of high finishers.
Abby Delport took sev- enth-place out of 24 swimmers that competed in the girls 18 and under 100 yard freestyle.
Grace Tademy finished in 22nd place.
Quincy Yada finished in 21st place out of 24 swimmers in the boys 18 and under 100 yard freestyle.
The girls six and under 100 yard freestyle relay team took 10th place out of 12 teams. Members of the team were Ana Lopez, Zoey Sullivan, Rylee Martinez and Reagan Christian.
The Marlins girls eight and under freestyle relay team also took 12th place in the 100 freestyle relay. Mem- bers of the team were Julian- na Dean, Marisa Sanchez, Liv Delport and Layla Ruiz.
The boys eight and under 100 freestyle relay team took 11th place. Members of the team were Isaak Ensz, Kyle Bacon, Alek Felix and Ricardo Perez-Rosales.
Emily Sanchez, Chloe Haywood, Jamilah Taylor and Danielle Hager combined to finish in sixth place out of 15 teams in the nine-and 10-year- old 100 yard freestyle.
The Marlins boys 11-and 12-year old 200 freestyle relay team took fifth place. Mem- bers of the team were Zach- ary Tristan, Asa Fausnaught, Demetrius Vargas and Quincy Yada.
Liliahna Bedolla, Jillian Balakian, Ela Betancourt and Alina Hodges combined to fin- ish in sixth place in the 13-and 14-year-old 200 yard freestyle relay.
