Earlier this month, U.S. Sec- retary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Adminis- tration (EDA) is awarding a $1.9 million grant to the city of Or- ange Cove to provide sewer and roadway infrastructure improve- ments to support the community and its businesses.
The EDA grant, to be located
in a Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Op- portunity Zone, will be matched with $485,700 in local funds and is expected to create or retain 330 jobs.
“The Trump Administration is committed to helping Ameri- can communities build the infra- structure they need to generate business growth in Opportunity Zones,” Ross said in a July 16 news release. “This project will provide the city of Orange Cove
with the necessary infrastructure to open up new land to be com- mercially occupied and to attract businesses to the area.”
The funding announced goes to one of California’s 879 Op- portunity Zones. Created by President Donald J. Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Opportunity Zones are spur- ring economic development in economically-distressed com- munities nationwide.
