Fresno County's
September crop report
highlights grape harvest
By Juanita Adame
Mid Valley Times
Neighbors at the Sanger Cross- ing Apartments looked visibly shaken on the morning of Oct. 31 as crime scene tape closed off the parking lot inside complex follow- ing a shooting left a man critical- ly injured and airlifted from the scene.
A woman who lives in one of the units and who did not want to be identified, said she heard a knock at her door and opened it to find a man suffering from a head wound. The man claimed that he had been sitting in his vehicle when his weapon misfired.
Several other neighbors said the man had knocked on several doors desperately looking for help.
Police did confirm a shooting had taken place, but did not con- firm whether the weapon had mis-

The Fresno County Department of Agri- culture announced in its September crop re- port that wine and table grape harvests were es- sentially winding down.
The report said grape (wine and table) harvests were winding down. Late season table grapes were covered with plastic.
Terraced vineyard drives were being re- Ieveled. Irrigation, cultivation, cane cut- ting, and treatments with fungicides and herbicides were com- pleted as needed. Rai- sin grapes were 15 per- cent on open trays, 20 percent rolled, and 65 percent boxed. Dried- on-the-vine (DOV) vines dried and were harvested. Late season peach and fig harvests were completed by the
end of the month on Sept. 30.
The report also said late variety stone fruit harvests were winding down; many orchards have started to undergo pruning. Export volume for stone fruit was down because of the strong domestic market. Among small grains, rice and sorghum were harvested. The ground was prepared for the next rotation of winter grains. Planting of triti- cale was held off due to the water shortage.
When it came to field crops, alfalfa for hay was cut, windrowed, and baled. Alfalfa for seed underwent the last harvests. The depart- ment also said cotton fields were undergoing defoliation. Pest control treatments for whitefly and Iygus, irrigation, and cultivation were completed as needed.
fired. A vehicle was towed from the scene, and the man’s condition is not known at this time. Anyone
with additional information is asked to call the Sanger Police Department at 559-875-8521.
• A non-injury traffic
driver for suspected DUI.
