Walter Gene Hayhurst of Orange Cove, CA was born on February 14, 1941 in Berryville, AR and went home to be with our Lord on January 30, 2022 in Visalia, CA.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents Nadine Hayhurst, Glenn and Dora Hayhurst and his sister Geneva Warkentin. Walter was a life long resident of Orange Cove, CA where he and his wife Dawn built a successful citrus farming operation. They were also well respected in the cattle industry, raising quality beef. Above all, his greatest accomplishment was his family. Family meant everything to him and he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by the love of his life of 61 years Carol Dawn, his daughter Janet Lyn, son Bruce and wife Heather. Grandchildren Cody (Alaina), Clay, Jacob (Shanya), Cyle, Chase (Kelli), Whitney (Spencer) Mitchell, and Courtnie (Matthew) Farr. Great Grandson Broc Alan Mitchell. Sister Glenda (Wally) Hill.
Graveside services will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:00 am at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, CA.

28, 1936 in
Culbertson,
Nebraska. He
had one sister,
Phyllis, three years older than he. The family moved to Reedley, when he was one year old.
He attended Wilson and Windsor grade schools, and graduated from Dinuba High School in 1954. He went on to get an AA degree at Reedley College.
Don accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in his childhood years.
He went by the name Don and especially enjoyed sports. He loved bowling with his dad and became quite proficient in the sport winning trophies not only with his dad, but also with his grandson in later years.
Don married a young widow, Ruth Buller in 1962 and enjoyed her two year old daughter, Cynthia. They later adopted a newborn baby and named her Carolyn, signing adoption for both of them in 1965.
He was employed with Don Rager at the Dinuba Firestone store for ten years and then was asked to join Enns Pontiac, Buick & GMC in Reedley as their office manager, where he worked 40 years.
Don was involved in the Boys Brigade program as well as the Communion program with the Reedley MB Church as a deacon.
He had Parkinson’s disease in the last few years of his life. The family greatly appreciated Clarice Lovegren who having worked many years with patients with that disease in their end stage. She has been an encouragement to the family in dealing with hospice and Parkinson’s. He passed away on October 26, 2021.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Harms; his daughters Cynthia Harms and Carolyn Taylor, his grandchildren Ashley and Aaron Somawang, Garrett Harms, Courtney and Nathan Davey, Cassandre and Ron Siroy and Mitchell Harms, three great-grandchildren Wade and Ford Davey and Coraline Siroy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church.
