Alcohol suspected in head-on collision Feb. 5 along Millerton Road
MVT Staff Report
A head-on collision over the weekend on Millerton Road near in the Fresno County foot- hills claimed the lives of five men, four of whom worked for a Clovis business.
The California Highway Pa- trol reported that the use of al- cohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The accident happened at about 4:30 in the morning on Feb. 5 on Millerton Road, south of Marina Drrive. Ac-
cording to the CHP, a man lat- ter identified as 20-year-old Javier Hernandez of Lemoore was driving a 2016 Hyundai Accent, north on Millerton Road. For reasons yet to be determined by investigators, the vehicle steered to the left and crossed over center dou- ble yellow lines and directly into the path of a 2003 Honda Accord.
The two vehicles crashed head-on and caused major in- trusion into both vehicles. All four occupants of the Hyundai – none of whom were wearing seatbelts, according to CHP — sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of the passengers were
from Clovis and one from Fresno. All worked for Valley Chrome of Clovis.
Also killed in the crash was Ramandeep Sran, 48, of Kerman, a passenger who was ejected from the vehicle. The Honda driver, 42-year-old Jugjeet Muhar of Clovis, and a 44-year old passenger both were critically injured and transferred by helicopter and ground ambulance to Commu- nity Regional Medical Center.
The stretch of rural road is two-lane and curving, and is located to the south of the Table Mountain Casino. Resi- dents in the region have been lobbying to have that stretch of road widened to four lanes.

Local Assemblymem- ber Dr. Joaquin Arawm- bula (D-Fresno) on Feb. 8 introduced Assembly Bill 1820 to establish a Labor Trafficking Unit that will investigate and prosecute perpetrators who force or coerce vulnerable people into jobs with little or no pay, often under poor and unsafe working conditions.
AB 1820, the California Labor Trafficking Preven- tion Act, seeks to protect
workers in California and prevent this type of exploi- tation. For years, the State has rightfully directed at- tention to sex trafficking. However, there has been no coordinated effort focused on labor trafficking, leav- ing workers vulnerable to threats regarding their im- migration status, their fami- lies’ safety, and their wages.
Under AB 1820, the La- bor Trafficking Unit would be established within the state Department of Indus- trial Relations.
