Thanks to a wild Saturday night, the 8-0 Reedley College Tiger football team is alone atop the Golden Coast Conference standings.
On Oct. 27 in Merced, Reedley used five touchdown passes from Randall Johnson to outscore the Merced College Blue Devils 44- 28. Meanwhile, in Monterey, the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos broke a three-game losing streak and handed the Hartnell College Panthers their first loss of the season with a 61-33 triumph.
Reedley joins Fullerton and College of the Canyons as the only undefeated teams in Cali- fornia Community College football.
On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Tigers will host Monterey in the final regular season home game at 1 p.m. at Reedley High’s Sal Gonzalez Field. In the Lobos’ win over Hartnell, quar- terback Christopher Lubinsky passed for four touchdowns and ran for three more.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, Reedley closes out the regular season in Salinas with a 6 p.m. con- test against Hartnell in Rabobank Stadium.
With two wins, Reedley could possibly face Chaffey College in the state’s American Divi- sion championship game.
Reedley is now 4-0 in conference play while Hartnell is 4-1 and Monterey is 3-1.
The Tigers took advantage of four Merced turnovers which included two lost fumbles and two pass interceptions. Reedley turned a Raul Montalvo fumble recovery into the game’s first score, a 4-yard touchdown run by Johnson. The Tigers increased the lead to 14-0 with one
second left in the opening quarter as Johnson connected with Mason Layton for a 19-yard touchdown pass.
The same pair combined for a 56-yard scor- ing pass midway in the second quarter. That combined with touchdown passes to Daniel Baca and Nicholas Clarke made it 35-0.
But Merced made it interesting by scoring the next 22 points. Within a span of just 57 sec- onds early in the fourth quarter, Reedley put the game away with another touchdown pass from Johnson to Baca and a safety.
Johnson completed 23 of 33 passes on the night for 267 yards and five touchdowns. The sophomore from Los Angeles also led the Ti- gers in rushing with 17 carries for 101 yards.
Defensively, Emylle Jones recorded four quarterback sacks and had five tackles.

who led last season’s (6-8, 11- 15) squad in scoring at 17.2 overall and 18.7 in conference play.
Jennings gave four-year schools a chance to get a clos- er look at Parks and Taber at fall showcases in both North- ern and Southern California. They both did well and so did the team.
The list of incoming fresh- men include two guards from Atlanta, Ga. in Khalid Wilkins (a 6’2” point guard who is
very athletic) and Chase How- ell. The coach said that How- ell followed his best friend in Wilkins to Reedley.
“He is quick, can cause some chaos and can finish around the basket,” said the coach. “Wilkins is a great pickup for us while Howell is more of a shooter. They are our one-two punch. Chase was in our starting lineup but suf- fered an injury and is work- ing his way back.”
Local talent includes Uriah Carter, a 5-11 guard from Edison in Fresno and another former Tiger in 6’6”
James Hannah. Both shined at the showcase games, said the coach. “James is your shot blocker and your traditional big,” said the coach.
Another freshman and former Edison player is 6-5 JJ Johnson.
“We have a lot of versatile guards so we will have to get up and down the floor,” said Jennings.

Tigers roster include Chloe Welch (Exeter),Tonee Bland (Washington Union), Sam Mendoza (Dinuba),Aurelie Bevao (France) and Brittney Rogers (Edison).
“We have some good soph- omores back and some fresh- men that work very hard,” said Kilbert, who predicts last season’s co-champion College of the Sequoias, as the early conference favorite.
The Tigers don’t have much height. “But if you have the willingness to go after the basketball, you can make up for that height,” said the coach.
“We would like to get off to a decent start but we are more focused on when we get to league play.”
