Everything was going right for Sanger Apaches during the first quarter of their league-title matchup with San Joaquin Memorial Friday night at Tom Flores Stadium. However, after Sanger jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, an inju- ry to Apache’s senior quarterback Noel Collazo seemingly changed the momen- tum of the game as the Panthers were able to rally and escape with a 31-28 vic- tory to claim the outright CMAC title.
“We really felt we had the upper hand early on,” said Pena. “We felt our game plan was taking form. But when Noel went down it all came to a screech- ing halt.”

Then, after the Apache’s defense re- covered a fumble at their own 18-yard- line on San Joaquin Memorial’s first pos- session, one play was all Sanger needed to take a two score lead. Taking the ball up the Panther sideline, Sanger’s Kosi Agina broke free for an 82-yard touch- down run.

The regular season didn’t end as hoped for the Reedley High Pi- rates football team, but the postseason promises to be historic.
Two days after a 38- 6 loss to the Sunnyside High Wildcats on Hal- loween Night in Fresno, the Pirates (6-4, 4-1 North Yosemite League) drew the No. 8 seeding in the Central Section Division 5 playoff bracket. While it’s notable that the Pi- rates will have their first home playoff game since 2007, but big news is the opponent — the No. 9 seed Immanuel High Ea- gles. The 7 p.m. game on Friday, Nov. 8, marks the first time the two schools have squared off in a varsity football game.
“It’s historic to play
Immanuel, we’re hon- ored to play them,” said Pirates coach Tony Gates. “We have two common opponents this season [Roosevelt and Mendota]. So we’ve had a chance to see them and see how their team has developed.
“Coach [Drew] Hal- stead and I have talked several times this sea- son, wishing each other luck and trading notes. There’s big respect there.”
Gates said Imman- uel’s offense, led by the big play capabilities of running back Matt Tiger and receivers Winston Williams and Trace Pires, will provide a challenge to the RHS defense. But he expressed confidence in his players.

Riding a four-game win streak into their play- off opener, Orosi High football coach remained a little cautious as the Car- dinals face Granite Hills on Friday night.
“I don’t really like playing the same team twice in the same year,” White said. “But that’s what we have in the play- offs.”
Orosi (8-3) defeated Granite Hills (3-7) back in September, 48-21.
“We have a great chal- lenge ahead of us to stay focused and not get over confident,” White said. “I’m sure Granite Hills will come out firing on all cylinders against us.”
Orosi was definitley firing on all cylinders in their rivalry game against Orange Cove in the annu- al Battle of the “O” game.
