City manager Nicole Zieba had a few words of wisdom for Steven Puryear, a newly sworn in sergeant with the Reedley Police Department.
“Your decisions have always been rational, wise, and based upon your own level of knowl- edge and when you need to seek out other knowledge,” Zieba said. “That is an exceptional trait for leadership.”
Puryear, who was a police of- ficer with the department, was sworn in on March 4 surrounded by his family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers.
“We don’t expect anyone to be perfect because we are all
human,” Zieba said. “I make mistakes, chief makes mistakes, we all do, but its the courage to stand up and say we’ve made a mistake we’re going to learn from this and we’re going to go in the right direction.”
Puryear started with the Reedley Police Department in 2008 and has worked as an ACT or Adult Compliance Team of- ficer as well as a field training officer.
Reedley Police chief, Joe Garza said Puryear has proved himself throughout the years and was the right person for the position.
“We’re going to be swearing in Officer Steven Puryear to the rank of sergeant which,” said

“We just manage, they ac- tually supervise all our offi- cers who are out in the field to ensure that everything is going well in protecting our community,” said Garza. “We have officers out there who are protecting people’s rights and liberties we have cops who are trained to take someones life if need be.”
