Dinuba police and fire calls for last week:
Monday, September 20
• A woman reported to police at 9:42 a.m. that she was receiving calls demanding money.
• A non-injury traffic collision involving a bi- cycle was reported at 12:10 p.m. at El Monte Way and Palm Avenue
• A non-injury traffic collision was reported at 7:25 p.m. Alta Avenue and El Monte Way.
The Reedley Police Department handled 606 public-initiated and officer-initiated calls for service, with 106 dis- patched as Priority 1 calls. Officers completed 116 police reports, made 26 arrests and issued 39 traffic citations. There were three traffic colli- sions and four DUI cas- es, three fire calls and 25 medical aid calls.

• Threats involving a subject with a knife were reported at 10:21 p.m. in the 700 block of East Princeton Avenue. • The theft of an electric
1200 block of L Street.
• An attempted vehicle theft was reported at 3:17 p.m. in the 1500 block of G Street.
• A subject check at 10:46 p.m. in the 800 block of G Street result- ed in an arrest for an outstanding warrant.

Johnnie K. Willems
1943 ~ 2021
Johnnie passed away from our hands with his family at his side on September 16, 2021.
He was born in 1943
in Wichita, Kansas and
moved to Reedley,
California when he was
3 years old. He lived in
Reedley until he moved
to Prescott, Arizona in
2004. He married his high
school sweetheart, Shir-
ley in 1962. He graduated
from Immanuel High and
Reedley College before receiv-
ing is Masters of Education from California State University, Fresno in 1965.
While living in Reedley, he was a respected teacher at Jefferson Elementary before becoming the principal at Lincoln Elementary – a position he held for 30 years.
He was awarded the district’s first Distinguished School Award. He was also respected by his students (even if you had to stand on a red tile in the hall for misbehavior) and many of them kept in contact throughout his life.
Johnnie was a member of the Reedley Mennonite Breth- ren Church where he founded the Chapter One preschool program. He also held the position of club president for Rotary International.
He liked to camp, fish, hunt, ride motorcycles and travel – often taking his extended family of 14 on trips through- out the world.
Johnnie was proceeded in death by sister Ruby Hein- richs and survived by sisters Rosemary Enns and Anna- belle Zimmerman. He will be greatly missed by Shirley
– his loving wife of 59 years, children Jon (Carrie), Sheila (Brian) and Matthew (Vanessa), and grandchildren Molly,
Johnny, Kayla, Selma, Blake and Violet.
On Sunday, September 19, 2021, James Fitzgerald Jr. (Big Jim) passed away at the age of 79. James was born August 30, 1942 in San Jose Ca. to James and Isabell Fitzgerald and is survived by his children: James and Susan Fitzgerald, Debra Fitzgerald, Dustin and Melissa Shaw, Lacey and David Buford, William (Billy) and Hannah Fitzgerald, Rowdy and Breanne Fitzgerald, and George Fitzgerald. Grandchildren: Brittany and Jedediah Fitzgerald, Wyatt and Charlotte Shaw, Brett and Samantha Budre, and Jake Buford, William Fitzgerald Jr., Reylynn and Brooklyn Fitzgerald, and Noah Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his sister Terri and Glen Thompson, and a host of beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents James and Isabell Fitzgerald, his three brothers: William (Bill) Fitzgerald, Albert (Bert) Fitzgerald and David Fitzgerald, and two sisters: Mary Thompson and Sue Houghton.
Jim joined the Marines in December 1961 and served his country until 1964. Afterwards, he finally settled in Orange Cove, CA.
He spent his younger years taking horse pack trips into the high country and fishing in the mountain streams. He was happiest when he was fishing!
Jim was employed by Coca-Cola and moved up in rank to District Sales Manager. After leaving Coke, he continued in sales and cattle ranching. He raised and showed registered Limousin cattle and this became his passion for the next 30 years. Jim made sure his children joined 4-H and experienced the many lessons learned while raising and caring for animals.
Jim loved to have a good time with friends and family. Later in life, he had a second family including five children, Dustin, Lacey, Billy, Rowdy, and George. He loved to load up all the kids and go camping and fishing.
A graveside service with military honors will be held for James on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
at the Smith Mountain Cemetery, 42088 Rd. 100 Dinuba, CA. 93618.
