level off

The number of positive ac- tive cases of coronavirus de- clined some last week in both Fresno and Tulare counties, but remain in an unofficial widespread category.
Fresno County did not have new daily numbers for Tues- day, Sept. 28, as of 6 p.m. that day, but through Sept. 27 had 1,837 active (by ratio) num- bers (32.3 daily per 100,000 residents) for a overall posi- tivity rate of 7.1 percent. That's a decrease of more than 600 active cases from the previous week, and hospi- talizations eased from 367 pa- tients to 337 (70 in intensive care).
Tulare County also had its active case numbers drip by more than 600 for the week, dropping from 4,005 to 3,380 with eight fewer patients hos- pitalized (152). But some re- gional cities had significant overall jumps; Dinuba in- creased by nearly 100 overall while Orosi jumped by 27.
Fresno County has not re- leased actual updated numbers of cases for each city in the region, but case rates were up- dated this past week. Most of the cities would fall in the red (significant) categories, and there are a few hotspots. The Lac Jac region west of Reedley has a 30-day7 case incident rate of 256 per 10,000 residents. In-

Dinuba's Raisin Day returns
Even if it was on a reduced level, Dinuba's an- nual Raisin Day festivities returned last week after a year's absence because of COVID-19. On Sept. 25, a brief parade processional was held in Rose Ann Vuich Park. A carnival and booths also were action on Sept. 23-24 and Sept. 26. Officials requested that attendees mask up to reduce health risks.

MVT Staff Report
The Greater Reedley Chamber of Commerce is still accepting and inviting parade entries for the 56th annual Reed- ley Fiesta on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9, in downtown Reedley.
Although the initial deadline date of Sept. 24 has passed, interested parade entrants can still download an applica- tion form on the chamber's website. En- tries for the parade — which is returning live this year after being a virtual event in 2020 because of COVID-19 — can still be finalized for a $40 fee. Vendor booth applications no longer are being accepted.

year's Fiesta theme is "Taking Flight" in honor of the city's long aviation history.
Also returning this year is the annu- al Fiesta Run/Walk event in downtown Reedley. Last year, "virtual" races along with a virtual "reverse parade" were held because of the pandemic.
The chamber reminds the public about the October "Alive After 5" event, an art hop this Friday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. downtown. Local artwork will be on display along with businesses open after the normal 5 p.m. closing.

Flores event a strong wrap to '21 Sanger Farmers Market
Jon Earnest / Mid Valley Times
Live music — a part of each Sanger Farmers Market on Saturdays during the mid-to-late summer — closed out the Sept. 18 Tom Flores celebration in downtown Sanger.
MVT Staff Report
Sanger's summer Farmers Market events closed out on a strong note on Sept. 18, driven by large crowds attending the mural and street name dedica- tion for favorite son and newest Pro Football Hall of Famer Tom Flores.
Chamber officials estimated that between 6,000 and 8,000 came to town for the event to honor Flores, and many stayed to enjoy music, food and drink af- ter the ceremony. The chamber hosted Farmers Market events each Saturday through mid-to- end of summer, with themed ac- tivities and regular live music.
More photos of the Sept. 18 Flores celebration can be found on page B10.
