injuries from car accident

Sanger's potential growth to the north, tied to what has been called the "Academy Avenue Corridor annexation, has a new and exciting element - a "mixed use" development along Bethel Avenue between Sanger and Highway 180.
Fowler Packing already owns the land and Fowler Packing planning consultant Arakel Arisian and Sanger's community develop- ment director Tom Navarro told the city council that plans are in preliminary stages to develop the area, now mostly in citrus or- chards, along the lines of other major develp- ment projects done by Fowler Packing.
A graphic of a Fowler Packing develop- ment in Clovis, "The Row at Heritage Grove" shown to the council at its Jan. 3 meeting was, Arisian said, an example of the kind
of development that could take place on its property north of Sanger.
The potential development along Bethel Avenue combined with the proposed Acad- emy Avenue Corridor annexation would create a variety of housing, commercial and park opportunities from the northern Sanger city limits to Highway 180.
The council approved a request by Navar- ro to approve a budget amendment of $36,560 to preparefuther studies to the General Plan Update and the North Academy Master Plan.
Part of the new funding is to review pro- posals by Fowler Packing that would be con- sistent with other projects they have worked on in the Central Valley, said Navarro.

Terry Peyton, 64, died Jan. 10 of injuries sustained in a two car crash on Jan. 7.
Mrs. Peyton was office manager at Sequoia Elemen- tary School and a longtime employee of the Sanger Uni- fied School District.
The accident at the inter- section of Del Rey Avenue and Highway 180 occurred shortly after 5 p.m. The other driver sustained only moder- ate injuries said CHP Officer Ryan Murakoshi.
The family was still in the process of making funeral arrangements when the Her- ald went to press.
Mrs. Peyton's son Jared said the family has been in total shock since the death of his mother.
In addition, the family has been dealing with the death of a great aunt, Mary Dunkel, who died two days after Mrs. Peyton.
Jennifer Harris Smith, another SUSD employee, left this tribute on Mrs. Peyton's Facebook page:
"My dear friend, Terry Pey- ton gave me this little birth- day sign a few years ago. I bring it out every January to start my birthday month off. And I would look forward to the birthday card that always came with an incredibly wit- ty comment written inside. Thank god I saved the cards.
Miser honored for Measure S service
Dick Sheppard/Sanger Herald
James Miser, right, was recognized by the city council for his longtime service on the Measure S Citizens Oversight Committee. Mayor Frank Gonzalez presented Miser, who recently resigned from the committee, with a plaque of appreciation. Miser, a CPA, was in the forefront of those criticizing the way the city dealt with the public safety fund and is generally credited with being a key reason for the grand jury to investigate and report on the issue.

Sanger Herald
A new city council member will be sworn in at meeting on Jan. 23 and a new school board member will be selected at a meeting on Jan. 24.
That is something that has seldom, if ever, happened in Sanger.
Esmeralda Hurtado was selected on Jan. 3 from among six applicants to fill a council position left vacant when Esmeralda's sister, Melissa, was elected to the
state senate in the November election.
Esmeralda is scheduled to be sworn in as the new councilmember from Area 1 at the 6 p.m. council meeting on Jan. 23.
The school board, at its 7 p.m. meeting on Jan. 24 will be interviewing applicants from Trustee Area 4 who would like to replace Marcy Masumoto who won a place on the Fresno County Board of Education in the Novem- ber election.
The deadline for applying for the school district seat is
5 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 18.
If the board cannot agree
on any of the applicants it has the option of extending the application period or calling for a special election in Trustee Area 4 in June.
Visit the district’s website for instructions on how to apply to serve on the school board or call Susan Joneson at (559) 524-6521.

Terry Peyton
We shared a love of books and granddaughters that are named Lucy. She was my “go to” gal for any question I had here at work. She mentored, coached and inspired us. I will miss my friend. Pretty sure she’s reorganizing the office in Heaven. ‘Til we meet again'."
