Ada Fisher served in the WAVES during WWII and the Korean War. She moved to Sanger in 1982 to be close to good friend Betty Kel- logg after Kellogg's husband James died. Fisher was grand marshal of the 2012 Sanger Veterans Day Pa- rade and received recognition for her service from then California as- semblyman Henry T. Perea. She was also honored by the city council in 2016. Each time she has been rec- ognized for her service she has ex- pressed her wonder at what all the fuss is about.

Mayor Frank Gonzalez and US Navy CDR (retired) Pat Nie- meyer paid a surprise call on Ada Fisher on June 6, Fisher's 99th birthday. Gonzalez presented Fisher with a city council proclamation praising her service during two wars and made sure she was wearing a lapel pin, above, with the city's logo on it. Niemeyer, after joking about Fisher, a Navy first class petty officer (retired), being out of uniform, praised her service and dedication to her country.

the work I’ve been doing in our community. I will visit every town and city, holding meet and greets, walking precincts, talking with farm- ers, small business owners, educators, and health profes- sionals, and meeting with law enforcement for ride-alongs.
"My goal is to learn more about the top concerns in dis- trict 14 and what the voters need most from Sacramen- to,” said Hurtado.
“I’m working to build part- nerships with everyone I can so I can be the best advocate for this Valley in the state senate.”
Hurtado plans to spend time in 21 cities and says she has already been at work in the communities of Hanford, Porterville, Reedley and Farmersville.

If you want to be a candidate in the November election you have from next Monday, July 16 to Aug. 10 to get your paperwork to the city or county clerk, depending on what office you're seek- ing.
Next Tuesday, Brandi Orth, the coun- ty clerk and registrar of voters is hold- ing a seminar that, according to Orth, will cover everything you need to know about running for office. It's from 5:30- 7 p.m. at the Fresno County elections training room at 4525 E. Hamilton Ave. in Fresno.
To reserve a seat contact Victoria Najera at vnajera@co.fresno.ca.us or
call (559) 600-3020 or Rachel Lopez at ralopez@co.fresno.ca.us or call (559) 600-3023.
There will be three city council and three school board positions on the bal- lot. The Herald has heard there may be a challenger for each incumbent.
Mayor Frank Gonzalez, district No. 2 councilmember Humberto Garza and mayor pro tem Eli Ontiveros in council district No. 4 are up for re-election and all three have said they plan to run.
School board president Pete Filippi in school district No. 2, Jesse Vasquez in district No. 7 and Ken Marcantonio in district No. 6 are up for re-election.
Marcantonio has said he will not run for re-election.
Jesse Solorio and Gina Cuevas have expressed an interest in running for Marcantonio's seat on the school board.
Melissa Beasley says she is thinking about running against councilmember Garza and David Sulenta has said he will challenge mayor pro tem Ontiveros.
However, nothing is official until papers are filed.
The mayor is elected by voters at large while other councilmembers are elected by voters in their districts.
School board members are elected by district.
