Crash northeast of Reedley kills 1, driver arrested

A head-on crash north- east of Reedley on Nov. 26 killed a 30-year-old Sanger woman and injured four others, including three children who suffered ma- jor injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen involved in the deadly collision was charged with being under the influence of alcohol or drugs and endangering three children in his vehi- cle.
The crash occurred at about 5:15 p.m. along East Adams Avenue between South Alta and South Ped- ersen avenues, northeast of Reedley and west of Orange Cove.
According to the Cali- fornia Highway Patrol, 61-year-old Manuel Ramirez Jr. of Sanger was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta east on Adams and drifted into the opposing lane of traffic.

Fox 26 report on Nov. 28 identified her as Michelle Aguirre.
Yashimoto suffered mi- nor injuries and was treated at Adventist Medical Cen- ter-Reedley.
Fresno CHP officials in- vestigated and eventually determined that Ramirez and the passengers in the Volkswagen were wearing seat belts. Yashimoto also was wearing her safety equipment.
As of Nov. 27, Ramirez remained hospitalized at CRMC with non life-threat- ening injuries, and was to be booked into the Fresno County Jail upon his dis- charge. He was expected to be charged with felony DUI, felony gross vehicular man- slaughter and child endan- germent.
The KMPH report said the three girls remained hospitalized through the holiday weekend.
He crashed head-on into a 2017 Jeep Cherokee driven by Christina Yashimoto, 28, of Sanger.

A 22-year-old man from Madera was killed earlier this week after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the shoulder of Road 80, south of Di- nuba, said the Califor- nia Highway Patrol.
According to offi- cers, the CHP received a call regarding a fatal hit-and-run traffic col- lision involving a pe- destrian at 6:50 a.m. on Dec. 2.
