The Reedley High Pirates contin- ued their strong start to the baseball season, picking up a pair of victories last week to finish in third place at the Central Valley Diamond Classic.
The Pirates (7-1) first won at Sel- ma High by a 14-6 score on March 9, then posted a 6-2 home victory over Sanger High at the newly-remodeled RHS baseball stadium on March 12. Unbeaten Kerman (8-0), which handed Reedley its only loss on March 2, cap- tured the tourney title with a 1-0 win over Kingsburg on March 12.
The Pirates rode an eight-hit at- tack and the pitching of Will Gagnon to down the Apaches (5-3), who earlier had defeated Dinuba by a 4-2 score on March 9. Darren Ortiz and Ryan Warkentin each collected two hits, with Ortiz knocking in two runs and Warkentin and Ethan Clark each scor- ing twice.
Gagnon also added a hit and run scored, and pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts to improve his

Sanger High's Andrew Herrera arrived safely at third base with a triple as Dinuba High's Anthony Pompa slapped on a late tag on March 9. Herrera picked up the pitching win for the Apaches in a 4-2 win over the Emperors in the Central Valley Diamond Classic.
inning when pitcher Andrew Herrera slammed an RBI triple to right off Em- perors' pitcher Keine Prendez. Both hurlers kept their opponents shack- led until the bottom of the fifth when Sanger pushed across three runs.
Herrera finished 2-for-3 with two triples and a run scored, and pitched five innings while striking out 11 to get the victory.
Regional teams now prepare for the start of their respective league games. Reedley hosted Dos Palos in a non-league matchup on March 15, then opens its final season of North Yosem- ite League play on Friday, March 18, with a 3:30 p.m. home game against Fresno High.
Sanger hosted a non-league evening contest against Clovis East on March 16, then is off for nearly a week before opening County Metro Athletic Con- ference Play at home against Madera High at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22. Dinuba, meanwhile, had non-league home games this week against Tulare Union (March 16) and Coalinga (7 p.m. Friday, March 18) before opening Cen- tral Sequoia League play against Han- ford West at Washington Intermediate

In the win over Selma, Dustin Wang went 5-for-5 with a triple while knock- ing in four runs, and Josiah Frieden- berg was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Sammy Estala and Sergio Marquez each had
two hits and two RBI while Warkentin also knocked in two runs. Clark picked up the pitching victory.
Dinuba (1-8) jumped to the early lead against Sanger when Noah Gon- zalez belted an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch. But the Apaches got a run back in the bottom of the first
