It was a tense, down-to- the-wire battle between the two top teams in the Cen- tral Sequoia League when the Immanuel High Eagles and Selma High Bears met on Jan. 12 at Immanuel High School.
Selma High High beat the Eagles 73-67.
“I thought we played well. We just had a few pos- sessions that hurt us,” said Chris Woods, Immanuel High head coach. “We are going in the right direction and getting better.”
On Jan. 13, The Eagles lost to Edison High School 79-76 in the Edison Show- case at Edison High in Fresno.
As of Jan. 16, the Ea- gles are 8-9 overall and 0-1 in the CSL.
In the Jan. 12 game, Nate Kendricks led Immanuel with 23 points.
Immanuel trailed 19-11 after the first quarter of play.
The Eagles battled back to take a 33-28 lead midway through the sec- ond quarter, before Selma responded with a 7-0 run to take a 35-33 halftime lead.
The teams battled back and forth in the third and fourth quarters, before the Bears pulled away late in the game to earn the win in front of a nearly sold-out Immanuel High gym..
“The atmosphere was great. It was loud and had a lot of energy and excitement,”

Zoe March, former Im- manuel High basketball star, dribbled the ball up the court for the Azusa Pacific Univer- sity Cougars on Jan. 15 against Fresno Pacific University.
Just past midcourt, March threw a pass to her teammate, who was under the rim and scored.
It was March's second as- sist of the game for the Cou- gars, who defeated Fresno Pacific 84-50 on Jan. 15 at the Special Events Center at Fres- no Pacific University.
March ended the game with five assists to go along
with 10 points and six re- bounds.
March is proving that her freshman season – in which she averaged seven points, five rebounds and four assists – was no fluke.
March is in her sopho- more year at APU and currently leads the nation in assists-to-turnover ratio with a 4.7 average and ranks seventh nationally in assists averaging 5.2 assist per game.
The Assist–to–turnover ratio (AST) is a basketball statistic used to put a player’s number of assists in context
