FCC ends RC women's soccer shutout, win streak

Something had to give Oct. 1 on the Reedley College soccer field. The Tigers came into the match with Fresno City College with five consecutive shutout victories while the Rams also had five straight wins.
It all came down to a goal in the 77th minute by Jazmin Mora to give the Rams the win. The Tigers had their chances but sta- tistics showed Reedley with FCC getting nine shots.
But it is quite an improvement from a squad that lost to Fresno City, 12-1 and 15-0, in 2017.
Coach Onesta Francis’ team conference play Sept. 28 with a 1-0 win over the College of the Sequoias in Visalia on a goal in the 11th minute by Denise Mar- tinez and the play of goalie Lucy Chavez, who had 12 saves in the shutout win.
Reedley takes a 5-2-1 season record into two tough conference matches this week, at Taft on Oct. 5 and hosting Clovis at 6 p.m. Fri- day night.
The Reedley College wom- en’s golf team prepared for an Oct. 5 conference tournament in Fresno by winning a confer- ence tournament in Taft last Thursday. Coach Scott Stark’s squad had a team score of 349, 44 shots better than Taft. Fresno City College did not have a team score.
Avery Foster led Reedley with a round of 76 while Mya Chow fired a 79. Cynthia Reyes was
next with a 94 followed by Natalie Van Pelt with a 100 and Michaela Tamez with a 112.
Reedley also has a conference tournament scheduled at Turlock on Thursday, Oct. 7.
The Tiger women’s volleyball team is still looking for their first conference victory after losses to Sequoias (25-16, 25-10, 25-4) and at home to West Hills Coalinga (22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20).
Coach Mariah Roby’s squad played a rescheduled match at Taft on Oct. 4 (results were un- available at press time) before traveling to Porterville College on Friday, Oct. 8.
