James

HeinricHs April 26, 1936 ~
July 31, 2021
James Eldon Heinrichs was born April 26, 1936 and went home to glory on July 31, 2021 at the age of 85 years old.
James was born in Goessel, Kansass to Jacob J and Sara Theissen Heinrichs. He was the 8th of 9 children. When James was four years old the family moved to California. The land in Kansas was too poor to support a large family and there seemed to be better opportunities for work in California. So, the family loaded up their Model A coup and their 1936 Plymouth sedan and headed west, with the three oldest in the Model A, four little girls in the back seat of the Plymouth and Jim and Baby Johnny in the front seat with Dad and Mom. When they got to California they settled in the Dinuba countryside
Jim went to Grand View School all eight years of elementary school. Sometimes the kids walked to school and sometimes sister Ruby would hike Jim and Johnny on her bike – one on the handlebars and one on the bar across the front. He went to high school at Immanuel Academy. He was elected student body president his senior year and also drove the school bus.
Since the draft was still in effect, Jim and several your men in the area who were also conscientious objectors did alternative service at Olive View TB Sanitarium in the San Fernando Valley. He was there for two years and during this time became a devoted, lifelong Dodger’s fan.
On June 25, 1960, Jim married Joan Buxman two weeks after her college graduation. They made their home in Reedley and lived in the area their whole married life. They were blessed with two children – Kristen and Gregory.
After graduating high school, Jams went to Four C’s Business College and received a certificate in accounting. Over the years he worked in a variety of places doing accounting and bookkeeping. In the 1970’s he went into business with Marlowe Frueh at Reedley Hardware. In the mid 80’s Jim bought Winner’s World Trophy Shop making trophies, ribbons and plaques until he retired in 2001 and then he farmed peaches, plums and persimmons until poor health set in.
Jim’s great love was singing. He was very active in music ministry his entire adult life – participating in the church choir, enjoying countless performances of the Christmas Carol Festival and dutifully growing a beard for the Passion Play at Easter. He sang and traveled with Words of the Gospel and sang bass with the Crusaders Quartet for more than 45 years
James was predeceased by his parents Jacob J and Sara Heinrichs, brother Marvin and sisters Linda Ewert, Lavina Hofer, and Adelia Tschiegg. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan, daughter Kristen Kroeker and her husband Mark of Reedley, son Greg and his wife Angela of Magalia, California and grand children: Sarina Heinrichs, Daniel, Jonathan, Annabeth, Cassie and Allison Kroeker. He is also survived by brothers Lester Heinrichs of Visalia, Johnny Heinrichs of Dinuba, and sisters Ruby Arduser of Laurel, Nebraska and Lillian Harms of Wichita, Kansas.
Memorial services were held August 10, 2021 at Reedley Mennonite Brethern Church.
