Rick Curiel / Mid Valley Times
Adam Gutierrez and 8-year-old daughter Olivia of Kingsburg were some of the first golfers at Ridge Creek Golf Course in Dinuba on May 6 as it reopened for the first time since closing on March 22 duetoastatemandatedshelter-in-placeorder. Clubofficialssaid more than 100 people had checked in to play at the golf course before noon on the first day.
said Gutierrez of his Wednes- day morning tee time. He also pointed out that the time he has spent at home with his family has brought them closer to- gether.
“It really makes you stop and realize what things are truly important in life,” Guti- errez added.
Ridge Creek Golf Course is taking all precautions in re- opening the golf course to un- sure the safety of all visitors.
“You name it we’ve done it,” said Pistachio of sanita- tion measures that have been taken at the golf course. The entire of fleet of golf courses was sanitized extensively two

Gruen and her son got involved with making a video called "Love Your Neighbor Chalk Chal- lenge," and did chalk artwork for Golden Liv- ing Center. After get- ting the approval of Su- san Chapman, associate patient care executive and site administrator for Adventist, she began the process of drawing chalk art on the side- walks accessing the hos- pital entrance.
Last week, Gruen came out and worked on a variety of inspiration- al sayings. The standout writing near the front entrance is a two-toned "Happy Nurse's Day" message to patients and visitors coming to the facility.

said. "I think it lifts hearts and encourages, and brings a little bit of hope. It's been real sweet. I think art has a way of doing that."
Chapman praised Gruen for her dedica- tion to the project, say- ing "it's such beautiful work."
Gruen said Truth & Words' message is a
simple one: "You don't have to be an artist. Even if it's just a heart on a sidewalk or smiley face or a simple word, it matters and can make such a difference to all of you who may see it."

Local golfers were eager to get back to the range and put- ting greens as dozens of pa- trons filled landscape of Ridge Creek Golf Course in Dinuba on May 6. Last Wednesday, the course opened up for play for the first time since an ex- ecutive state order due to the current pandemic resulted in its closure and dozens of fur- loughs.
“We had to furlough the majority of our staff,” said the Ridge Creek’s head profession- al Nate Pistachio after confirm- ing that 41 employees were fur- loughed due to the statewide restrictions.
Some of those employees are still furloughed as num- bers at the club’s restaurant, Three Finger Jack’s, remain low despite it offering takeout meals. But most of the course workers, according to Pistachio have returned to work as the numbers on the course poured in with anticipation.
Before noon, the course had over 100 people check in at various tee times. One of those to check in was Adam Gutier- rez of Kingsburg. He used the opportunity to take his eight- year-old daughter Olivia out for some of her first lessons.
“When I found out this was opening up, I thought ‘ok, now we can kind of ease into it’,”

days prior to reopening and Pistachio said they are again sanitized after every use. In addition, anything that can be touched on a regular basis has either been removed or is sani- tized regularly.
The numbers last Wednes- day also reflected the public’s desire to step out and regain a sense of normalcy as they showed a definite increase compared to pre-shelter-in- place attendance.
“People are looking for something to do and are tired of being stuck at home,” said Pistachio. “People are just happy that we are open again.”
