Pirates girls volleyball continues to roll

The Reedley High Pirates girls volleyball team is put- ting Division III on notice that they may be the team to beat in 2018.
As of Sept. 11, the Pirates were 14-1-1 on the season.
On Sept. 5, the Pirates re- mained unbeaten this season after defeating Golden West High School from Visalia 3-1 in Visalia.
Set scores in Reedley High's win were 25-18, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-16.
Reedley High then com- peted in the Coast Union Tour- nament Sept. 8 in Cambria. The Pirates ended the tourna- ment 4-1.
“The team played well in spots as we use the tour- nament to get playing time for all of the players, both starters and reserves, as you never know when someone has to step up during the sea- son,” said Ken Tatami, Reed-
ley High head coach. “It also gives us a chance to see some of the Coast Section teams, now that many of them have moved over to play in the Central Section for the play- offs. We learned a lot about our team and found some points to improve on at this point of the season. Overall, we did play well and enjoyed our time on the coast.”
They opened the tourna- ment on Sept. 8 suffering their first loss of the season to Buckley High. They then defeated Cabrillo High from Lompoc, Dunn High from Los Olivos, San Luis Obispo Clas- sical Academy and St. Joseph High from Santa Maria.
They then played Tulare Union High on Sept. 11. No score was available at press- time.
The Pirates will play Sel- ma High on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Selma, before compet- ing in the Redwood Tourna-

It only took three plays for the Reedley High Pirates football team to take control of their game against the Mendota High Aztecs.
The Pirates scored 19 unanswered points in the first quarter and rolled to a 46-13 win on Sept. 7 in Mendota.
Reedley High is now 2-2 on the season and have a bye week, before returning to the field on Friday, Sept. 21 at Wash- ington Union High School in Easton.
It is the first time Reed- ley High has won two non- league games since 2010.
On Sept. 7, the Pirates took a 19-0 lead after the first quarter of play and extended their lead to 26-7 at halftime.
Ahead 12-0 late in the first quarter, Gannon Ga- baldon took a quarterback keeper and scored a 5-yard touchdown to extend the Pirates lead.

The Immanuel High Eagles fell behind 7-0 to the Quincy High School Trojans on Sept. 7 at Feather River College in Quincy.
The Eagles then scored the 48 of the next 54 points in the game to roll past the Trojans 54-19.
Immanuel is 2-2 on the season and return home on
Friday, Sept. 14, against Cen- tral Valley Christian High School in the annual Battle for the Boot.
“We started off very poor- ly, with little focus and that is not unexpected after the trav- el involved,” said Kevin Rid- dle, Immanuel High Eagles head coach. “But once we got past the poor start, we played with energy and purpose.”

Both side of the ball were clicking for the Reedley Col- lege Tigers football team on Sept. 8 against Yuba College.
The Tigers took a 23-6 halftime lead and rolled to a 44-20 win over the 49ers at Sal Gonzalez Field at Reedley High School.
Reedley College is 2-0 on the season and will travel to play at Contra Costa College on Saturday, Sept. 15, in San Pablo.
“It is the preparation that we have put in year round,” said Eric Marty, Reedley Col- lege head coach. “We have been working really hard to get to this point. The defense was dialed in and we are start- ing to build a program. We are starting to see the fruits of that labor.”
After the Tigers defense forced the 49ers into a three- and-out during the first pos- session of the game, the Ti-
gers offense took the ensuing possession and scored.
Jamon Chambers, Reed- ley College running back, capped a 13-play, 61 yard drive, with a 4-yard touch- down run. This gave the Ti- gers a 7-0 lead.
Chambers had 14 carries for 44 yards and one touch- down in the game.
Joseph E. Williams inter- cepted a Yuba College pass on the ensuing possession.
This led a 42-yard field goal attempt by Michael Hamm who made it and ex- tended the Tigers lead to 10-0 with 6:58 left in the first quar- ter.
Yuba College scored on a 26-yard interception late in the first quarter to cut the Reedley College lead to 10-6.
